Tour de France 2018, Stage 15 passes the door! Sunday 22 July Join Us
Gîte Wistéria’s position in town is very unique – a 5 minute walk to Mazamet’s amenities and yet 5 minutes walk away from wonderful walks in the Montagne Noire National Park. The gîte is a two bed-roomed 19th century cottage that sleeps 4 people. The bedrooms are next to each other, so you walk through the twin bedroom to get to the double bedroom, or use the French doors onto the garden (perfect for summer nights). The gîte has one large shower room, a comfortable living room and a separate, well equipped kitchen. All rooms are south facing and have shuttered, double French doors leading onto a well maintained garden with lockable street access. It is awarded 3 Stars by the local Tourist Office.
Our guests have private access to the whole gite and gite garden. It is not shared with anyone. They also have a lockable gate entrance from the street into the private gite garden. Although the gite is built on one level, there are 9 steps up to the street level from the garden with a hand-rail.
Parking for cars, motorbikes or trail bike trailers is on the street or in nearby public car parks. You can bring your bicycles into the garden, but don't forget we have 9 steps from the garden to the street!
Interaction with guests
The gite is adjacent to our home, so if you have any queries during your stay, we're around most of the time, so just give us a call!
We like to welcome you when you arrive and if you like, we can have a chat over a drink or cup of tea to discuss all the exciting places you can visit on your holiday.
While we wish to share our knowledge of this area, we also respect your privacy. So if you do have any questions during your stay, or if you encounter a problem in the gite, please do let us know as soon as possible.
There will be someone available to hand back keys to etc when you leave.
Other things to note
2018 sees the return of the Tour de France coming through Mazamet! This is Stage 15 which runs from Millau to Carcassonne over the Montagne Noire taking in the Pic de Nor! They will have a 12.3 km, 6.3% climb ....... and then a 40 km descent to Carcassonne. The gîte is on the route, so the lucky people who book 22 July will be able to relax and see the race!
Gîte Wistéria is very close to many cultural and historic centres which are featured on our website. If you are interested in medieval history, then this is your country – we are surrounded by castles, fine cathedrals and medieval towns and villages. The major cultural centres of Toulouse, Carcassonne, Albi, Castres and Beziers are all within about an hour’s drive from the gite making exploring the area very easy. Come and discover this relatively unknown corner of France!
The gite is self-catering and we provide clean bed linen and towels every Saturday if you stay more than one week.
If you invite other people to stay who do not appear on the booking, we will charge 5 Euros a night per head after the first two people.
We ask you to leave the gite as clean as you found it and not to smoke in the gite. If you smoke in the garden, please throw your cigarette butts into the dustbin. Unfortunately we will have to charge you for deep cleaning if you smoke in the gite. This usually takes a few days, during which we cannot let out the gite. Thank you for your consideration.
We welcome guide dogs but not pets.
The local tourist tax (0.90 Euros/per person/per night) is our only extra charge - it's cheaper for you this way, and you can pay this when you get here).
In respect of our neighbours, our 'quiet time' is after 22h00.
Please do not allow your children to play in the flower beds or break the plants. No footballs in the garden, but there are many good parks in the area!
I live with my partner Martin Capey here in Mazamet where we both have art studios. Apart from our own practice, we love living here for the amazing walks in the mountains, swimming in the various lakes and, due to the clement weather - a bit of gardening! This region, as indeed all of France, is amazing for it's local food produce that we certainly like a lot!
We enjoy being hosts as we can then share some of this amazing place with our guests. We live adjacent to the gite, and although we are keen to see our guests settled in OK, our style is fairly low key during their stay! We just want people to have a great time!
