Looking for a magical mountain get-away? Look no further!

Guests will easily make themselves right at home in this spacious, just-remodeled walk-in basement apartment with panoramic views. Sunset guaranteed to be stunning!

A quick 6 minute drive to/from hwy 70 makes it easy to access everything else Plumas County has to offer.

<10 min to town of Portola
<5 min to Lake Davis
20 min to Graeagle
30 min to Cromberg
40 min to Quincy
45 min to Reno
50-60 min to Truckee

The space
Cull Castle is a truly magical location that manages to both be rural and unplugged, without actually being that far from every modern amenity!

Guests will put quality distance between themselves and the bustle of every day life with every gained foot in elevation on the way here, and feel the weight and stress lift from the shoulders with every step down to the "front" door of the apartment. Forget the pet sitter, and bring the four-legged family members along for the trip - well behaved pets are welcome.

This 600+ sq ft guest apartment has been lovingly remodeled in the past year to provide a comfortable, clean space, whether guests would like to unwind and relax in the pines, or use it as a jumping point for the mountain (pun unintended) of other activities in Plumas County.

It's a quick 10 minute drive into the small town of Portola, and a (beautiful) 40-50 minute drive across the Sierra Valley to Reno or Truckee. Cull Castle is less than 5 miles off hwy 70, and centrally located 20-40 minutes from other towns of Plumas County and Lost Sierra like Graeagle, Cromberg, Blairsden, Quincy, Loyalton, Chilcoot-Vinton, Sierraville, etc.

The Cull Castle property is just shy of 2 acres, and shares a border with the Plumas National Forest. Outdoor spaces are always evolving and currently include a variety of sitting spaces and private walking trails.

Walk-in/daylight entry basement of the home is dedicated to the guest apartment and includes:

- separate, secluded entry that doubles as a private covered patio
- kitchen w full size fridge/freezer, electric stove/oven, microwave, semi-auto espresso machine, electric kettle, drip coffee maker, and all the basic pots/pans/plates/etc
- separate dining area comfortably seats 3-4
- living room set up with Roku TV, desk space, variety of books, puzzles, games, etc
- bedroom with queen bed + in-suite bathroom has shower/tub with removable shower head
- day bed in the living area can be used for an additional guest, or to relax

Fiber optic internet installed summer 2021 - stay connected to send those last few emails before logging off, or make sure all the photos from the day are safely stored.

Hosts reside on-site in the main level of the home and are available 24/7 for any request with a quick message, call, or knock on the front door. As avid travelers + AirBNB guests ourselves, we understand that each trip and person's preference for 'social time' varies, and want to respect our guests' preferences for interactions - whether that's to pull up a chair and chat, or see as little of us as possible after check in, just let us know!

Where you’ll be

Portola, California, United States

Our home is at the edge of the residential zone off Grizzly Rd and borders the Plumas National Forest. We are frequently visited by our local wildlife neighbors.

It is a quick drive less than 2 miles up the road to various recreations around Lake Davis. Following Lake Davis Rd for another 6-10 mins goes to the center of Portola.

Public course Grizzly Golf Course is at the bottom of the hill, 5 miles away.

Hwy 70 is less than 10 minutes away.

There are NOT many nearby food options for restaurants or grocery. There are a handful of restaurants in Portola + Graeagle that can have limited hours. Please be aware the closest big chain grocery store is 40-50 mins away.

My wife Lynda and I love California, and we love to travel using Airbnb ourselves! We moved to our dream home in Plumas county, CA with our 3 cats and bird in 2020 after living in San Diego for 10 and 5 years, respectively. Lynda is a Nor CA native, and Cris has lived all over the US after immigrating from Chile.
