*** The cottage is getting a new deck so there will be sporadic outside construction going on through June***

This farm cottage is located on a historic 40 acre farmstead behind a beautiful farmhouse (which is under renovation) with views of The Peak, Ashe County’s highest mountain. We are bordering Elk Knob State Park and a 10 minute drive to the park entrance. The farm is located in the historic Sutherland valley district and was built in 1807 by Thomas Sutherland.

The space
Guests have the entire cottage to themselves. The main bedroom is upstairs (the bathroom is downstairs) with a king bed and a twin day bed. The bedroom on first floor has bunks with a full and twin bed. The cottage has 100 mbps high speed fiber optic internet so you can keep up with your work while getting away from it all. We also have two TVs with streaming devices for those who don’t want to work.

We border Elk Knob State Park and are a 10 minute drive to the entrance. We are a 25-30 minute drive to Boone, a 40 minute drive to Blowing Rock, a 30 minute drive to West Jefferson, NC and a 45 minute drive to Damascus (Virginia Creeper Trail). For gas and necessities, there is a nice little station/general store called Donnelly’s down on Hwy 88. The closest restaurant is a diner named Sharpies ten minutes away in Trade, TN.

I’m Jennifer. My husband, son and I moved to our historic farm three years ago. We have been working to restore it and are planning on turning it into a wedding venue. We love to travel and love being part of other’s travels by sharing the farmstead with them. Follow our progress, Sutherland Manor on social media.

During your stay
I am available by text for anything guests may need. I will often be at the farm working in the farmhouse (it is under renovation, so a contractor may be there as well) or one of the barns, but will leave guests to enjoy and make themselves at home.
