About this listing
Aka Pa's Fishing Lodge. This is rural New Zealand at its best - we are across the road from one of the best fishing rivers in the country. Ski in the winter, hike the famous Tongariro Crossing, golf at a great country course, or simply RELAX.
This is our family retreat so it is full of homely touches. If you are after a posh hotel-style place, this is NOT it! Lots of games, books and DVD's. We have only just (reluctantly) put WIFI on - not unlimited, but 80GB so should be enough for everyone. We do ask that guests don't abuse it so there's enough for the next guests. Here's your excuse to kick back, tune out and RELAX. The outlook is leafy and the pantry is well stocked with staples. We do not supply perishables like milk, or breakfast, as we live a couple hours away, sorry!
This is our home away from home; we have provided everything we can think of to make life comfy when we visit, which means when you visit as well. We have a friend on hand nearby if you have problems but generally I'm available by phone anyway.
Interaction with guests
We don't live nearby so I'm afraid we rarely get to meet our guests except electronically. We have friends in Turangi who can help you if necessary. We offer privacy and a restful stay.
Other things to note
Well housetrained dogs are welcome - ours think that Turangi is heaven. If you have a dog allergy, better pass on by! Heaps of books, games and DVDs for rainy days - for all ages. In the winter there's a cozy fire that keeps the house warm; if it's extra cold you can also fire up the coal range which is a great place to cook a roast. We have recently installed a couple new lazyboys in the lounge (old ones now installed in the solarium. I haven't updated the photos yet.)
We expect you to treat our home as your home. (We hope you are as housetrained as your animals.) Absolutely no smoking inside, please. Outside if you must. There's a Weber barbecue outside but if you use it we ask that you leave it in a respectable condition.
We also have a very expensive turntable and sound system in the lounge with a variety of records to play but we do ask that only careful adults operate it. Those needles cost a fortune! You are welcome to bring your own vinyl to play.

I'm an expat American who has lived in New Zealand for nearly four decades (most of them in our home in Rotorua which I love.) Kiwi/Tongan husband and two mixed heritage kids. I had a Danish grandfather and a Scottish grandfather and lived in Pakistan for five years when I was a child. We have a son in New York and a daughter in Denver. Basically I'm a sedentary creature but I love my dogs and walk with them every day. Bridge is my recreation and reading my relaxation. We have two houses available for rent - one in Turangi and one in Rotorua - and they are both full of books that guests are welcome to borrow and return at their leisure.
