An authentic stay. A kind host who despite having little English was warm and friendly and up for having a drink with us and even sung us some traditional songs. We were taken on the most beautiful walk through the rice padis and round a stunning lake. They cooked a nice dinner (approx 700 Rs for 2 people). A good stay but definitely a basic one.

Rathnasiri's was a lovely place to stay very welcoming from the start, situated on the main road between Anuradhapura and puttalam it is easy to find after your off the bus. I would describe this as the first proper home stay I've had in Sri Lanka, eating in the family home meeting their friends and relatives and visiting the spots where they spend there free time. It's about a 15 minute tuk tuk from here to the entrance of Wilpatu national park were you can rent a jeep per day or half day. But travellers on a shoe string be wary it can be quite an expensive trip with entrance to the park at 25 usd plus twice that for jeep rental. Instead you could ask vijay to take you to one of the many lakes around for a swim, including Rajanganaya which is stunning at sun set. My stay here gave me a great experience of Sri Lankan life which I would definitely recommend.

Neverbeen User Profile

Neverbeen offers a wide variety of rare homes off the beaten track, from fisherman's huts and tree houses to heritage homes and tea estates. Our team hand-picks and visits every home and meet all hosts to make ensure guests have a positively memorable stay in places they've never been.

We provide travellers and home owners in challenging locations with access to one another, by offering communication services, online marketing services and tourism training, so that locals can make a living off their home and travellers can get to stay in places they have never been.

As such, Neverbeen works for a world in which everyone has the chance to earn income by renting out their home, regardless of language, internet access and tourism experience.

In Sri Lanka, Dishan manages our growing group of homes in cooperation with our scouts, while Rohan creates listings and provides service. In Amsterdam, Marten works out international growth plans. Our team of in-house programmers is constantly developing the platform itself and Ernst & Young does our finances.

The first country we're active in is Sri Lanka, a beautiful country with many undiscovered places to stay. Due to it recently having opened up to tourism after decades of conflict, it is a great place to start and pilot the Neverbeen concept. We plan to expand to ten countries before the end of 2017.
