Double bedroom in a period conversion on a square between Bloomsbury and Kings Cross. Newly refurbished and furnished mainly in mid-century furniture. The nearest tube's are Russell Square, Angel and Kings Cross. Islington's Upper Street is nearby.
The apartment is a triplex conversion in a Victorian terrace on a quiet square leading up from Gwynne place (made famous in Arnold Bennet’s 1923 novel the ‘Riceman Steps’ which is set in Clerkenwell.
The bedroom is on the first floor. The living area, kitchen and bathroom are on the top (second) floor, with views over the square. There is a garden with tall plane trees in the centre and a child’s play area. There are about three flights of steps in the flat so people with difficulty on stairs may find this tricky. There is one bathroom in the flat.
We have recently refurbished the apartment and designed it in a modernist style which we love and much of the furniture dates from the mid 20th century. There is a freestanding bath with overhead shower, washing machine, dishwasher, under-floor heating in the bathroom, wifi and projector to watch dvd's and many books.
There is a roof terrace with a barbecue. The kitchen is a refurbished, polished metal kitchen from the 1950's. There is a Smeg Range cooker and fridge-freezer.
We have a Russian Blue cat called Len. If you are renting a room (& not the whole flat) he will be there. He’s very lovely and hypoallergenic and so does not moult like other cats. If you are renting the whole flat (unless you particularly like to have a cat with you) Len will stay elsewhere.
There is wifi. There is currently no television. However if you bring your own devices (laptop etc) you can connect to British Online Television, including the BBC, ITV and Channel 4, Netflix etc.
Interaction with guests
We will meet you and give you information on the area and chat, or if you prefer to be left to your own devices that's fine too! We're happy to let you get on with enjoying your stay in London!
If you are renting the whole flat it will probably be a friend who will greet you and show you around.
Other things to note
Please note that the central line (a line on the underground where it comes overground) runs behind the flat. There is the sound of these trains between about 6am and 12.30am in the bedrooms. We don't notice the sound anymore and most guests aren't bothered by it, but if you are sensitive to sound it may be an issue for you. Also we have a cat, which we will take with us if you are renting the whole apartment. He is theoretically hypoallergenic (a blue russian with non-shedding fur) but people with very sensitive cat allergies may still find themselves to be allergic in the environment.
No pets or smoking please. Also some of the furniture requires coasters for drinks. You're welcome to use the kitchen.
