Familiy Rupa was very nice and polite but it was a bit hard to communicate because of their english but they really tried. The accomadation was good too. Sharing the bathroom was no problem. The only thing we can really critize is the bill in the end. We had to pay for the water beside the meals, tea and the wifi. The meals costed more than they said before. So we paid a lot more than what we expected. Maybe they should make a list of the extra costs and stay at the prices there so no one is dissapointed.

Rupa and her family always meant to be really helpful and friendly but due to a lack of english knowledge and therefor resulting communication barriers it kind a felt like the whole family was a bit overly attached and to busy to guarantee for a peaceful stay. Because of that we unfortunately cant agree with reviews written that they felt like home.. Was more that we got the feeling of disturbing the family in their daily lifes. Beside that: delicous sri lankian food, scenic atmosphere near the bodhi tree and perfect place to start your daytrip through anuradhapura :) Greetings johanna and dennis

Very nice place. Great Sri Lankan food - big portions. Location is great, very close to the Sri Maha Bodhi. Neverbeen rent us bikes and we rode them around the whole town.

Great to have our host pick us up from train station. Which is quite close to their home also their home is walking distance to a few ancient sites. Especially the Maha Bodhi Tree. The stay was nice. Felt like a homestay in many ways. But quite pleasant. Meals were made for us on request for a charge. And we're quite tasty and beautifully served. Bikes available and saw many bikers. Although we used the tuk tuk for most of our site seeing for a charge. English was not a problem for most Communication as a relative speaks great English. Shared bathroom worked out ok and everyone was polite and very cordial. It's a great location and beautiful gardens. We has a lot of fruit which we were craving. I would recommend this place highly. A close knit family and can observe their daily life and learn about their culture.

Unlike a lot of places on AirBnB nowadays, this is a true and proper homestay. You sleep in the spare room of Mrs Rupa's lovely place, sharing the space with the family. The room is a very good size with optional A/C and a fan. There's a small daily charge for WiFi but it's not much. Location is good, right next to the sacred city. The highlight though is Mrs Rupa and her lovely family. Mrs Rupa makes lovely food at very reasonable prices and even provided me with a small packed breakfast to take on the bus to Trincomalee. Mr Rupa was very kind and dropped me at the bus stop in his TukTuk. All in all, highly recommended!

Our stay at the Rupas home was very nice. A friendly family, super delicious meals (whenever we felt hungry...), spacious and clean room with optional A/C available. The breakfast in the garden is really amazing. Don't expect a hotel, but a well looked after home and a nice warm shower. It's very close to the temples and Mr Rupa also owns a Tuktuk, with which he will be happy to drive you around. There is also a telephone contact in English, which helps a lot. We had several "special wishes" and non of the was a problem at all. Thank you for having us!

Neverbeen User Profile

Neverbeen offers a wide variety of rare homes off the beaten track, from fisherman's huts and tree houses to heritage homes and tea estates. Our team hand-picks and visits every home and meet all hosts to make ensure guests have a positively memorable stay in places they've never been.

We provide travellers and home owners in challenging locations with access to one another, by offering communication services, online marketing services and tourism training, so that locals can make a living off their home and travellers can get to stay in places they have never been.

As such, Neverbeen works for a world in which everyone has the chance to earn income by renting out their home, regardless of language, internet access and tourism experience.

In Sri Lanka, Dishan manages our growing group of homes in cooperation with our scouts, while Rohan creates listings and provides service. In Amsterdam, Marten works out international growth plans. Our team of in-house programmers is constantly developing the platform itself and Ernst & Young does our finances.

The first country we're active in is Sri Lanka, a beautiful country with many undiscovered places to stay. Due to it recently having opened up to tourism after decades of conflict, it is a great place to start and pilot the Neverbeen concept. We plan to expand to ten countries before the end of 2017.
