This newly refreshed 1800’s hideaway (formerly, and popularly known to AirBNB guests as “The Secret Garden”), located just steps away from the bridge in the heart of artsy Lambertville NJ has a knock-out kitchen (complete with cabinets from Jim Morrison’s last US residence out in West Hollywood) that opens up to your secluded courtyard and garden. Come ready to be inspired by our town and to create your OWN music and art with the various instruments and art supplies available to you here.

The space
(please note parking restrictions below under "guest access") You will have 1 Queen sized bed , plus 1 queen sized fold-out Murphy bed with foam mattress in a separate 2nd floor den (note: there is no door between the two sleeping areas). These 2 sleeping areas share a full bath with Juliette balcony that opens out over the secret garden below. For your convenience, there is WiFi, a TV in the upstairs den which offers basic cable as well as capability to connect with your favorite streaming platforms, and USB charging stations upstairs and down. To help create your ideal atmosphere, a Bluetooth speaker and oil diffuser (feel free to bring your favorite scent) are available for your use. Oh! and look for your complimentary treats from one of our local favorite establishments (including Ninas waffles and ice cream, The Chocolate Box... – YUM!)

It is all just 1.5 hours from NYC and 1 hour from Philly. But, why would you want to leave? You will be surrounded by art galleries, antique shops, local coffee and ice cream shops more than 2 dozen cool restaurants – and you will be right on the historic canal path and a block from the river, both which are treasured for biking, kayaking, paddle-boarding, rowing and more.

Can there be more? A short stroll over the bridge will take you to New Hope, PA, Lambertville’s slightly edgier sister river town, for Friday night fireworks in the summer(hopefully again, soon), live shows at the Bucks County Playhouse , and plenty more excellent dining and music options.

These two river towns host special festivals throughout the year – Shad Fest, Winterfest, Lambertville’s popular annual autumn house tour and spring garden tour.

Plus, you are only 3 miles downriver from the incredible Stockton Market and 6 miles upriver from Washington’s Crossing park, where George Washington made his famous crossing of the Delaware during the Revolution .

Check out the photos and please feel free to message me with any questions. AND...

Welcome to Lambertville!

Guest Access:

As a guest of the Canal House, you will have exclusive use of the entire house and the brick patio of the garden. However, this home abuts 2 other homes in this quaint historic area, so the gardens on either side of mine are private. Everyone is very friendly, but to respect privacy and be mindful of the noise level. Also, please contain your garden use to only the brick patio area, and always use FRONT DRIVEWAY DOOR to enter/exit the Canal House.

Other things to note (about kids):

I have raised, and travelled extensively with, my own children , so I know firsthand the enjoyment of traveling with children. However, the Canal House is a small enclave of 3 homes, all adult-owned and occupied. The bedroom has no door, so it is open to the stairway, and the home is not childproof. It is not recommended for any children under 10, and older kids by special request only please. Thank you!

Thank you for visiting our site. I bought my first house in Lambertville in 2013 after raising my family in Skillman NJ. Lambertville is such a special town and everyone who visits is instantly charmed. The Canal House is allowing me to do one of the things I enjoy the most - - opening up my home to wonderful people so that they may enjoy what our town has to offer. I am a bit of a wanderer, myself. I recently visited my 50th state after a few cross-county road trips with my dog Milo in my 16' Airstream (and various easy going friends along the way:-). I have been to many great places, but there is no place like Home. I know that. My hope is that you find The Canal House feels a little like home to you for a bit. I teach Pilates in Philadelphia, but Milo and Cornell and I can be found around town, enjoying the heck out of all that Lambertville and New Hope have to offer. We are happy to offer suggestions!
