The space
Escape to a Vintage Canadiana Retreat.
Nestled in a charming summer village on the lake, this peaceful barn-shaped cottage offers the perfect getaway from the hustle of everyday life. Whether you’re taking a sabbatical, enjoying a weekend adventure, or working on the first draft of your book this space invites quiet reflection, creativity, and rejuvenation.
The hosts have designed The Barn with a vintage Canadiana aesthetic infused with playful, creative touches. Love vintage and thrift finds too? Explore the nearby town of Barrhead and other recommendations with our curated guidebook for unique shopping and local experiences.

A Space Guests Love.
Visitors consistently note the calm, restorative energy and the thoughtful touches that make The Barn feel like a home away from home. Everything you need for a rejuvenating experience is here, waiting for you to unwind and recharge.

Clean, Comfortable, and Allergy-Friendly.
We’ve eliminated the cleaning fee to keep pricing transparent, but our cleaning routine is meticulous. We use a rainbow cleaning system (certified asthma & allergy-friendly) that purifies the air as we clean. We avoid chemical air fresheners, scented laundry detergents, and dryer sheets, opting instead for natural wool dryer balls—all to ensure a safe, healthy environment for guests with sensitivities.

Important Guest Guidelines.
Please review our house rules regarding sauna use, cinema, children, pets (small & non-shedding only), and smoking (outdoors only, including cannabis & vape). To respect all guests’ health and comfort, please avoid heavy colognes or perfumes during your stay.

Guest access
Enjoy a private entrance and dedicated parking with convenient self check-in. A dedicated StarLink connection and 43” 4K smart TV ensures you won’t miss a thing unless you want to. Please note that The Barn is best suited for guests who are able-bodied, as there are two flights of stairs from the parking area to the main space, plus stairs leading up to the bedroom and rest area.

Step out the front door onto a concrete patio with a bistro set and propane BBQ, perfect for morning coffee or a relaxed meal. From the patio, a flight of stairs leads down to your grassy, flat fire pit area with picnic table; ideal for evenings around the fire, playing ladder golf, or even pitching a tent. Available year-round each season has special qualities and memorable highlights. For the best “beach” vibes, we recommend a trip to Pembina River—we’ll share Google map pins to our favorite spots on request.

Optional Amenities:
Wood-Fired Cedar Sauna – available in 4-hour blocks ($30 for one block, $25 each for multiple; wood included)
Private Cinema – across the yard in a separate building ($40 with popcorn and drinks, and choice of thousands of DVDs and a VHS room and x-box 360 gaming console)
Links to reserve these optional amenities will be sent 5 minutes after booking The Barn, allowing you to tailor your stay for ultimate relaxation and fun.

Other things to note
💧Water: The property uses well water with a natural yellow tint due to high iron content. It has been tested and is safe to drink, but we also provide a large (18.9L) jug of water for cooking and drinking (and will replace it at no cost). Please note that white linens are not used because the water can cause discoloration.

🛜 Connectivity: The Barn has dedicated Starlink WiFi, but due to the rural location, speeds may still be slightly less consistent than urban areas. Cell phone reception is decent with most providers.

🔥 🍭Firewood & Local Treats: Firewood for outdoor fire pit is available for about $1 per large piece \ $8 a bundle. You’re also welcome to purchase Unforgoatable candy, treats, and other locally sourced items displayed on the back wall shelf (payment via Airbnb app, e-transfer, or cash). You may bring your own firewood, but please check the Alberta fire ban website/app before planning a fire.

📊 Rural Charm & Seasonal Expectations: The Barn is located in a quiet summer village, offering peace and privacy most of the year. Guests can expect the occasional sounds of nature, wildlife, and seasonal activity. Weekends and the peak summer holiday season in general are busier, as more people are enjoying the area and the lake. We expect everyone to be good neighbours and these seasonal rhythms are part of the authentic lakeside retreat experience and add to the tranquil, rural charm.

Neighbourhood highlights

The neighborhood is a summer village where more and more people are staying through the winter. Paved roads are great for biking, or go off-road on a nearby trail system with bikes, cross country skis, snowshoes, or your plain old feet. Our lake does not have a public beach, boat launch or docks so please don’t come for that. The Town of Barrhead with full amenities is less than 20kms away.

For the best “beach vibes” we recommend the nearby Pembina river (request map pins from hosts), or go for a round of golf with 5 courses available within a 45 minute drive.

Take it a little farther for family fun at Rotary Park in Whitecourt or a taste of the mountains at Hard Luck Canyon 1.5 hours away.
