Where you’ll be

Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco, Mexico

Sonido del Mar is on the Pacific coast in Los Chonchos, Cabo Corrientes Jalisco Mexico. Sonido del Mar is near Puerto Vallarta, Boca de Tomatlan, Yelapa, Chimo and Playa Corrales on the southern edge of the Bay of Banderas.

Search zg5kHHLy8n0 on YouTube for video of one of our visits to Los Chonchos.

THE AREA:

Los Chonchos is an eco preserve between Yelapa and Chimo, with Chimo being the last stop that the water taxi makes before returning to Boca de Tomatlan. The area is teaming with marine life, including Humpback whales, rays, dolphins, turtles, etc.

Chimo (Fishing Village)-

The closest village, Chimo, is a fishing village and is accessible via water taxi, our kayaks or by a beautiful 45 minute hike along the rugged coast.

We prefer to hike the trail along the coastline and time it so we can have a bite to eat at a restaurant and/or grab some supplies from the store, then take the water taxi back to Los Chonchos. If you miss the water taxi or want to stay longer in Chimo, don't worry. Arturo has a boat and can give you a ride for a fee if you don't want to hike back.

Please note the water taxi does not go up on the beach in Chimo and you will need to be transported to and from the water taxi by a row boat. This will cost you an additional 20 pesos one-way (approximately $1 USD each). Two villagers will row for you.

Yelapa-

Yelapa is a quaint village and only accessible by water taxi. It has nice beaches with several restaurants; some have loungers and beach service.

Hike or ride on a mule to a beautiful waterfall while visiting Yelapa.

Buy a homemade pie from one of the women vendors on the beach.

Rent a jet ski or go for a parachute ride by being pulled behind a panga boat.

Arrange a fishing trip. The area is world renowned for its in-shore and off-shore fishing.

Shop in the village stores. Yelapa also has a grocery store with more selection than Chimo.
