Great location

Previously known as the Bushwhacker Cabin this Secluded rebuilt pre-civil war log cabin on 10 acres with spectacular mountain views is only 45 min from Snowshoe! Only a few minutes to Scenic Highway 150, many hiking trails and premier trout fishing. Short drive to Marlinton, restaurants, grocery store, fly fishing outfitters. An hour from the Greenbrier Resort, Lewisburg, etc. We offer satellite WiFi (no gaming or streaming, sorry) and basic cable TV. The cabin is pet friendly with a deposit.

The space
This beautifully appointed cabin is perfect for nature lovers. Enjoy your morning coffee on the historic porch and watch the sun rise over the mountains. In the summer time, you will likely be joined by humming birds. Prepare family meals in the fully equipped kitchen (incl. dishwasher) and eat on the porch or in the kitchen. Or go out to one of the area's many restaurants.

The master bedroom sleeps two. You will find two twins and a queen-size bed in the loft. The hot tub is located on a screened-in porch for privacy. The bathroom is spacious with a large shower and apartment-size washer and dryer.

For a rainy day, we offer basic cable tv and satellite-based WiFi (no gaming or streaming because of limited bandwith, sorry). There is also DVD player.

During the winter months, four-wheel drive is strongly recommended to access the property. Although roads around Marlinton and the access road to the cabin are regularly plowed, snow can at times fall faster than the crews can get to it.

Make sure to download driving directions and all other cabin information prior to leaving home. There is NO cell phone service past Marlinton, and none at the cabin.

We have a landline for local calls and emergency calls. You need a calling card for long distance or international calls. You may also use the Internet to use Sk....e, W....App, or similar apps, to communicate with the outside world. Make sure you download them onto your device prior to your trip.

The cabin is located at over 3500 ft in a microclimate that is several degrees cooler than the surrounding lower areas. Air conditioning is not needed, fans are sufficient. We do provide a window A/C unit upon request in the summer. Please let us know in advance.

Pets are allowed with refundable extra security deposit. Dogs must be crated when owner is not present in the cabin. Dog owners are expected to clean up after their dogs in the front yard. Bags not provided, sorry.

Our well water is perfectly safe for human consumption, but has a slight metallic taste that is not to everybody's likening. You may want to bring bottled water for coffee, etc. We do not recommend washing light-colored fabric in the washer because they may turn orange due to the water's high iron content.

Also, we charge a cleaning fee, and have to charge a 6% "resort fee". That's a fancy name for the 6% local occupancy tax we have to pay per stay to the Pocahontas County Sheriff. In addition, as of June 6, 2019, Airbnb will collect 6% WV sales tax per booking directly from guests. Please be aware that we are not making any money off of any of these taxes.

Where you’ll be

Marlinton, West Virginia, United States

The cabin is a located a few miles north of Marlinton in Pocahontas County. Monongahela national forest starts right behind the cabin. Snowshoe is just 45 minutes away. We are close to the Greenbrier Trail, Williams River, Teal Creek, the Cranberry Wilderness, Highland Scenic Highway, Handley Wildlife Management area, Droop Mountain civil war battlefield, etc.

The Allegheny Highlands Region of eastern West Virginia boasts the highest of the Allegheny Mountains of the eastern U.S. and includes the most lofty peaks and remote forest areas in West Virginia. Much of the region is protected as part of the Monongahela National Forest, and by northern parts of the Washington & Jefferson National Forests. The cabin has direct access to 'the Mon'. The area is a destination for outdoor recreation, such as hiking, biking, skiing, hunting, fishing, and caving.

Pocahontas County's pioneering heritage dates back to the mid 1700's. The county and the town of Marlinton still show signs from the early days of logging. Following the civil war, lumbering flourished with the arrival of the railroad. Steam locomotives from the logging days are still in service, and operate daily in nearby Cass , and in Durbin.

Marlinton is a gateway to many outdoor activities like skiing, golf, fishing, hunting, canoeing/rafting, mountain biking, hiking, and horseback riding. It has a full-service grocery store, Southern States, a huge Ace Hardware store, small hunting and fishing shops, and several restaurants. A car dealership and various car repair shops in town can help out as needed. A gas station, public phone and convenience store are 15 min down the road from the cabin.
