We have been renting out our guesthouse for 18 months and have never seen it left in the condition that it was. Our cleaning fee for these guests was $60. During their two month stay, we had our housekeeper come in every two weeks and do a deep cleaning for 2 hours. At completion of their stay, it took 8 hours to restore the guesthouse to it's rentable condition. It normally takes 3-4 hours. We provided a total of 14 hours of cleaning ($350 to our cleaning person) and the guests were only charged $60. Why they question the cleaning fee is beyond me! At each cleaning our house cleaner had to remove 30+ beer and wine bottles that were piled up in a huge mound in the corner, and constantly told us how filthy these guests were. At completion of the rental, every single stainless steel pot and pan had been completely scalded and burned with caked on food. Every single plate, glass, bowl, utensil, and item in the kitchen had to be rewashed because they were coated in grease and food. In 18 months we have never had an issue with guests and know that standard cleaning is required, This was above and beyond disgusting. We took the high road and did not write these guests a negative review because we didn't want to affect their ability to secure future rentals, but wanted to defend ourselves as our standards are not that high, it was simply unacceptable. We did not charge them a cent for the extra cleaning yet they are still complaining.
