Wilmington is known for its outdoor playground for those who love to ski, hike, fish and bike. Our community is friendly and relies on visitors to support our local economy. The mountain and river views are outrageous, the air and water are clean and we have virtually no traffic or crime.

Public transportation is limited but available depending on season. Lake Placid offers taxi services.

We built this cabin ourselves. Our DNA is literally in the building. It is a labor of love and an expression of our creativity and craftsmanship. Our intent was to build a getaway that was environmentally conscious using natural and energy efficient materials as much as possible. "Less is better" was key to our decision making along the way. We made use of existing materials as much as possible and generated very little waste during construction.

Guest access

You will have privacy yet easy access to local amenities. A walk/pedal path is located along Springfield Road and wildlife refuge is just across the street. Lake Placid is a 14 mile scenic drive.

Rarilee's cabin is a magical place in the woods of ADK. It is hard to believe the eco friendly cabin was hand built by her and her son! (There are many more built by her at her home!) he cabin is amazingly well equipped and comfortable considering it's small size.

This place is a gem!!! It's quaint, and has such an amazing design. When we arrived there were deer out back. We loved stargazing at night in the back yard area, it's perfect for it! The cabin was comfortable, clean and charming. Don't let the composting toilet deter you, it was a non issue. I would certainly stay here again, we are a family of 3 with 2 young adults and we all enjoyed the charm and simple beauty of this cabin.

Very convenient location. Bike/run/walk path on road in front of house. Close to Whiteface Mountain and Lake Placid. Within an hour of the Seward range and close to other peaks. We stayed here because it was central to some high peaks we wanted to climb. We wanted something basic, easy and convenient and this was it. I never thought a composting toilet would be so easy to use! Besides that the place is cozy, the bed is amazing, the kitchen is very easy to work in and the shower is small but great. Loved the stone floor in the shower! We usually blow money on eating out but for this trip we cooked dinner and made breakfast in the kitchen every day. Loved reading the books about the home construction and enjoyed listening to cds of local artists on the small but powerful stereo (go Drew Sprague!). I appreciated that the hosts composted vegetables and we left them quite a bit of compost when we left. There is a pretty cool set of running and mountain biking trails nearby and a small supermarket in Wilmington for essentials. Can't speak to local eateries because we cooked each night but there are a handful of places nearby. You can honestly tell this place was built with love and care for those who stay there; I hope we can stay again! Also, the grasshoppers were pretty wild on the sunny days. Never seen so many in one place!

This was our second visit and it is just as magical in the Summer as it is in the winter. We adore this place. Just about 20-30 minutes from the town of Keene and most of the trail heads and swimming holes! The place has a full kitchen with everything you'll need to get by. The fire pit outside is a great addition for S'mores and summer night rrelaxtion with the hammock. This place will always be our place to stay in the ADK!
