Slow down and discover an enchanted place full of warmth, charm and distinctive amenities. Chic cabin, surrounded on three sides by woods, with a spectacular view of the Cape Breton Highlands. Just off the famous Cabot Trail, blocks from the sea, though still within town, enjoy quiet and convenience. Wood fired hot tub and pizza oven. (Wood provided) Five minute walk to the lovely L'abri restaurant and bar, just a little further to The Doryman music venue.

The space
725 sq/ft cabin with a loft chocolate box bedroom and balcony, spectacular view of the Cape Breton Highlands, and hole 12 of the Portage golf course, at the top of a private lane.

Loads of natural light, surrounded on three sides by forest; birdsong and animal sightings are common.

A full kitchen allows you to cook local seafood and take advantage of onsite fruit and herb gardens.

Throughout the year you will be able to harvest many veggies and lettuces, rhubarb, strawberries, blueberries, saskatoon berries, blackberries and apples.

Lobster is fished in June and May in our area, but available from a local pound through October.

A large, modern bathroom is very sunny and bright, with a frameless shower and unique reclaimed old growth counter.

Laundry facilties are shared with the house next door. Please note that the shared laundry room links this home with the house next door. Excepting this connection the house stands independently.

Wood shed stocked with wood for the wood fired hot tub, pizza oven and fire pit.

The hose and the hot tub plug are in the laundry room for you, in case you want a tub. The hose has an orange quick snap end on it - it attaches to the outdoor shower across from the tub. To open the water lines; close the outside lines at the bottom, and then open the lines inside above the hot water heater. (The lines are open when the handles align with the hoses.) Feel free to use the hot water and the cold, open all the way to fill the tub. It takes less than 40 minutes with everything open all the way and using the hot water will lessen your heat time.

There is a lot of pre-chopped wood to start the fire, matches have been left in the kitchen for you. Please ensure the water level is high enough before you start the fire.

Guest access
Guests have access to shared gardens and laundry and pantry, as well as a wood fired hot tub. (Wood provided)

Other things to note
This house shares a large laundry and pantry with another house. Excepting the breezeway like laundry room it stands alone.

Though we have a small heater to keep the water from freezing through, sometimes the cold just can't be beat. The tub can be heated from frozen, and takes about 3-4 hours, rather than the usual 2.

Neighbourhood highlights

In town, but tucked away on a private lane, this cabin is ideally situated to explore the numerous beaches, local coffee shop, golf course and national park.

Heading north on the Cabot Trail, about 3km, is Aucoin's Bakery. The white loaf bread is every local's favourite. The bakery road leads to a very long beach at the highland's foot. Rocky and sandy it is a great spot to watch the lobster boats fish in spring and enjoy the lull of the sea.

South of Hillcrest about 6km you will find access to Cheticamp Island. At it's tip is enrage lighthouse. The causeway that connects the island houses a very nice sand beach with shallow descents, sheltered from the wide open sea. Access is through the breakwall (no charge) or via the Plage St. Pierre campground (fee of about $7.00)

My work: Paramedic
I am a local paramedic that likes to spend as much time as possible traveling. I love being an AirBnB host, as well as enjoying other people's rentals when I travel. I am proud to offer you a lot of the things I would love to find in a rental; great sheets, a choice of pillows, sharp knives, to make your stay among the beauty of rural Cape Breton easy and memorable. I hope my rental space brings you as much joy as it brings me.
