Where you’ll be

Charlestown, Rhode Island, United States

Briarwood Drive is a cul de sac off West Beach Road in a quiet single family residential neighborhood. We are the last house on the left.

As you approach Briarwood Drive on West Beach Road you will see glimpses of beautiful Quonnie Pond on the right. The Pond can be accessed by driving, biking or walking to the end of the road where you will find the Breachway that connects the Pond to the ocean. There is limited parking, a fishing area, a boat ramp and a launching area for kayaks and paddle boards. Clamming areas can also be accessed from this location (license required for non-residents and may be obtained for nominal fee at local bait store).

In addition to extensive state beach facility in Misquamicut, non-residents of Charlestown may park at nearby Blue Shutters town beach on East Beach Road for $20 on weekdays and $30 on weekends. Bikers and walkers are free. Beyond Blue Shutters is a small state beach with parking for $12 on weekdays and $14 on weekends.

All of the above parking areas tend to fill up early on holidays and weekends. Best to go by 10 am or after 3 pm.

resembling the “great house” of a Mexican hacienda with its arcades and roofs of Spanish tile, the building is representative of a period in American architecture when designers felt free to draw on a myriad of inspirations from across history and cultures. Constructed in 1912 by the New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railroad—commonly referred to as the “New Haven”—it was one of a handful of Spanish Revival style stations built by the company in the early 20th century across southern New England.
