Staying at Scrumpy Hut takes glamping to new levels. Set in beautiful and tranquil grounds you can relax and enjoy a romantic and peaceful break in comfortable and luxurious en-suite accommodation decorated to the highest standards.
Scrumpy Hut is nestled in an old apple orchard that is teeming with wildlife that our guests can observe including rabbits, ever-busy squirrels, a wide variety of birds including green woodpeckers and birds of prey in the paddock and orchard and the swans, geese and ducks on the river.
However, the most wonderful experience are the occasions when you can see the beautiful herd of deer who visit the paddock and orchard frequently, appearing randomly at various times during the day or night.
You can enjoy your meals in the cosy dining area or, weather permitting, dine al fresco in the orchard. There are no street lamps in the village and, with very little light pollution, on a clear evening, you can enjoy sitting outside with a glass of wine under an infinite canopy of stars. On those colder evenings, you can wrap up in front of the log burner with a warming mug of hot chocolate.
What's included in your stay...
Welcome basket
A complimentary basket is provided for your arrival which includes a freshly baked loaf of bread, butter, marmalade, granola, bacon, crisps and orange juice along with some coffee capsules for the Nespresso coffee machine, teabags, hot chocolate and sugar.
Additional supplies
We also supply basic essentials including salt and pepper, washing up liquid, soaps and shampoo, small travel hairdryer, kitchen roll, toilet rolls and supply of kindling, firefighters and some eco-friendly coffee logs for the log burner (additional packs of logs can be purchased for £5 each on request)
Bedding, towels, tea towels and dishcloths are also provided.
Your accommodation
The kitchen area contains a microwave/oven, hob, fridge with small freezer compartments, ample crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils, the log burner, wardrobe facility and an efficient wall mounted electric heater to allow you to vary the heat. There are ample electric plugs around the hut, which also have USB – USC charging facilities.
The bench seating has storage facilities under the comfortable seat covers and an ample size oak dining table so that you can enjoy a relaxing breakfast, lunch or dinner or just a sit down with a drink and relax.
At night you can move the table and pull down the luxurious king-size bed and cosy up between White Company Egyptian cotton sheets on the very comfortable and award-winning Emma mattress for a good night's sleep or sit up in bed and read or if you are in luck watch the deer wander around close by. The bedding normally includes four duck feather and down pillows as standard with a 10.5 tog duvet. However, if you prefer hypo-allergenic pillows please let us know ahead of your stay and we will organise them to be changed.
The en-suite accommodation includes a good-sized shower, hot and cold running water, heated towel radiator and a flushing toilet. The hot water is powered by a combi-boiler providing hot water as and when required.
To stock up with further supplies, or if you just want to pop out and eat, there are a wide range of local amenities, shops, pubs and restaurants all within a short drive.
There is a firepit provided for your enjoyment, which comes with a supply of logs in the log store at the end of the hut, barbecue grill, pan and utensils.
Please note that the logs supplied for the firepit can only be used for the firepit and are totally unsuitable for use in the log burner as they would cause damage to the flu and cause a health and safety risk. We, therefore, kindly request that you only use the special eco-friendly logs provided for the log burner.
Cushions and fleeces for your use outside are kept in the storage facility in the bench seating in the hut. Please could you bring the cushions and fleeces inside when you have finished with them in case it rains.
