The space

Our "Sunshine Cottage" is indeed drenched in sunlight all day long, with delightful views of the surrounding fields and rollicking green hills, just as you would expect in mid-West Cork. The cottage layout is open plan so that you enter into the kitchenette-dining area, with the bathroom directly behind it and the living area to your right. Across the room you will find a small staircase that leads upstairs to the double bedroom.
Relax with a good book on the comfy couch and wide chair or make yourself a nice cuppa in the fully equipped kitchenette, complete with breakfast counter and everything you need to cater for yourself: kettle, toaster, ceramic hob, fridge, microwave, sandwich maker as well as quality kitchen paraphernalia and other useful details such as a picnic hamper, candles etc. The bathroom has an electric power shower, towels, toiletries and hair dryer are provided. You will also find extra blankets to snuggle up and we can provide you with an ample choice of good books or magazines and DVDs in many languages. The cottage has oil-fired central heating throughout that can be timed according to your needs.
We recommend our place as good value for single travelers or couples as well as young families (up to two younger children can be accommodated comfortably). A baby cot with mattress, a double air mattress, a high chair and other baby items (bouncy seat, toys etc) can be provided as needed.

All our guests will have ample parking space directly in front of the cottage and have full access to our large garden. Should the weather allow for it, we can provide you with sun loungers and, for those traveling with children, there are swings and a slide (to be used at your own risk and under adult supervision, please). One natural boundary of the garden consists of a shallow little stream. We recommend your children get their wellies on! Our property is located off a quiet country road and there is virtually no traffic, a paradise for children to roam freely and explore nature... However, should you wish it, the property gates can be closed for added safety.

While the "Sunshine Cottage" is entirely for guests to enjoy, we ourselves live on the far side of the property, located in a lower position from the cottage. This guarantees ultimate privacy for you, however, should you need anything we will only be a little stroll away.
We interact with our guests as little or as much as you want us to but there is a chance you might see our friendly cat taking a walk around the garden...
Since this is our home we will normally be present during your stay and gladly help you out where we can. Be it information, lifts to the airport or into town as well as meals, everything can be arranged! Just ask! If you feel like treating yourselves, full board is possible, too, but ideally should be booked in advance to cater for your individual taste and/or dietary needs.
We can also provide babysitting and, for those interested or in need, professional editing services.
** Please note: WIFI is only available on request and is to be paid by usage **

Kilmichael is happily situated between Cork and Killarney, Co. Kerry, thus making it an ideal starting point for many day trips in both directions. Cork city has much to offer in terms of culture and nightlife with truly individual pubs, coffee houses, art spaces and shops to tickle your fancy. We will be more than happy to provide guests with our "little black book" of local knowledge.
To get a true taste of country living though, why not visit the buzzing market town of Macroom nearby? You will find you might never want to leave... Or if it's more nature you are after, Gougan Barra forest park is within a short driving distance as well as many other forest parks, hiking trails, bicycle routes, nature reserves, famous coastal towns and beaches such as Bantry, Glengarriff, Clonakilty, Inchidoney or, indeed, the Wild Atlantic Way, to name but a few places of interest. Again, we can provide you with ample information on suitable excursions for adults and children alike.

There are regular buses from Macroom to Cork and surrounding villages but individual transport is highly recommended to truly benefit from Mid- and West Cork.

The "Sunshine Cottage" is the perfect place to get away from it all, get some rest and relax in the soothing Irish country side. Whatever the weather and in any season, we think this is just a lovely spot. Come and see for yourselves!

NIcole and Nicholas were very welcoming. They provided great directions (we had no trouble finding the place). A car is a must, but the country location allowed us to visit the country side, and sit outside at the end of every day. NIcole provided a welcome basket with great home…

Lovely little cottage in the middle of the country side. Access is via narrow country lanes, but the directions provided were very helpful. Nicole's family were lovely and made us feel very welcome. Nicole's husband recommended the Toonsbridge dairy to us which was fantastic.

Lovely little cottage in a cosy rural location. Nicole was very helpful with lots of suggestions on places to go and left us homemade jam and fresh eggs. Would highly recommend staying here!

Very cosy, nice cottage in rural, remote area. but still close enough to various touristic highlights in Western Cork Area (beaches at southcoast, peninsulas at westcoast, Cork, Killarney). Hosts are very friendly and helpful.
