Extra spacious

Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.
This schoolhouse is the smallest one of two on the property.

Country living extends to the outdoors on the private patio. Wrap yourself up in one of our vintage handmade quilts, breathe in the fresh country air and enjoy unobstructed views of neighbouring fields. Saskatchewan is touted as the “Land of Living Skies’, and there’s no better place to see the most amazing sunsets, stars and Northern Lights.

Enjoy soaking in your private hot tub while star gazing or looking out over a vast valley.

The space
This 1911 , 700 sf, one room school has been completely restored. The entire main floor is studio-styled living space, vaulted ceiling, with a king bed and double sofa bed, full kitchenette and bathroom with walk in shower. There is a private deck and private hot tub ( which is not visible by guests at the other school), fire table and outdoor seating. Lawn games are available in summer and snow shoes and toboggans in the winter.

Guest access
The entire schoolhouse is yours to enjoy! You have the studio styled indoor space with a king bed and a double sofa bed, a full service kitchenette, one bathroom and a private deck with gas bbq, patio, private hot tub and a fire table to enjoy. There is lots of quiet outdoor space to walk around and adirondack chairs to sit and enjoy the views or read your book. You also have use of several lawn games and snowshoes and toboggans.

Other things to note
As we are a 25-minute drive to the nearest grocery store you may want to stock up before you arrive.

WIFI is available at the property; however, our rural community is not serviced via fiber-optics, which can result in slow and/or occasionally no service.

We are on a country septic system, which means bathroom tissue only in toilets.

As Merid School is located a short distance from this school (Magna Bonum School), there may be other guests enjoying the property at the same time as you. Please respect their privacy and ensure outdoor quiet time by 11pm.

Neighbourhood highlights

The school is located on a 2.3 acre parcel of prairie. It is the second and smaller school on the property. It is also located approximately 1 km from our farm yard and cattle operation. The road leading up to the school is a quiet, dead end road that is only used by 2 neighbours. Each school has private outdoor areas.

Alsask Swimming pool is open during the summer months and is a short 8 minute drive.

Alsask Recreation Centre offers a bowling alley for personal use (2 lanes, built in the 1960's). Please request contact info from us if interested.

Just south of Alsask is Prairieside. This is an incredible gym with all the equipment you would need for your work out routine. Please request contact info from us if interested.

Alsask Radar Dome is a massive structure that is the last standing cold war Radar Tower of the Pinetree line. It is occasionally open for tours.

A 17 minute drive straight south of the school is a pretty little spring called Alsask Lake with picnic areas and a great little fishing hole. Guests also enjoy kayaking here (need to bring your own kayak)

A 10 minute drive east gets you to Marengo, where you will find a great little bar/grill located in a historic building on main street. Marengo Hotel hosts Friday night wing night and Saturday night pizzas along with other specials.

Going a bit further, the Great Sand Hills located 20 km South of Sceptre, Saskatchewan, is a must see with the unique 1,900 Sq Km area of active desert like sand dunes. It will take 1.5 hours to get there, but so worth the drive.

A 25 minute drive west will get you to Oyen Alberta or a 40 minute drive east to Kindersley. Both offer full amenities.

Given that the school is located close to our farm, our two dogs may show up for a visit, however, if you let us know, we will come asap to pick them up. They are (far too) friendly towards humans and other dogs and think that the school yard is an extension of their home.

Please understand that the school is on the prairie and surrounded by fields. You may see or encounter wildlife while in our schoolhouse or neighbourhood. This includes but is not limited to foxes, moose, deer, antelope, coyotes, gophers, badgers, skunks, mice, spiders, flies, maple bugs (aka halloween bugs, box elder bugs), ants, crickets, bees, mosquitos and wasps. These creatures reside in nature and we have no control over them. We cannot control mother nature and therefore do not refund if you encounter her business during your stay.

For those guests unfamiliar with Maple Bugs, please know that they are totally harmless and are not "infestation" insects meaning that they cannot survive indoors, and do not feed off anything inside. They are just a pesky outdoor bug that occasionally make their way indoors.

Lives in Merid, Canada
We are Keith & Kathy Warrington. Family is the most important part of our lives, & providing an opportunity for people to spend time with one another at Merid & Magna is literally a dream come true. I, Kathy, was raised travelling the world. My parents had a passion for history, which was evident in their vast collection of antiques. For most of my adult life I worked as a social worker, primarily in international and domestic adoptions. In my spare time I started Tattered Treasures, an antique refinishing and furniture restoration company. Many of the pieces you will see at the properties have been restored by me personally. Upon retirement from social work, I decided to focus on my business and help my husband Keith with our farm/ranch operation. Busy with this business, as well as a large garden and orchard, the schools fit beautifully into our quiet but busy life on the prairie. My husband Keith was born and raised in this area. In fact, his family once homesteaded on the land where they now live. Many of his family members attended Merid School and he himself attended Magna Bonum School in Grade 1-2. Keith's family have beautiful and deep pioneering roots both in the history of Merid as well as the schools. In many ways the restoration of these schools is in honor the pioneers who paved the way for the future generations.
