House Rules

There is no smoking.

Pets can be discussed, but since there is already a dog in residence it might be a bit much to add another.

Since the bathroom is shared at least some of the time, I ask guests to be mindful. And please, be aware that we here in California have water rationing due to prolonged drought.

The rooms are remarkably sound proof because the walls are plaster and wood, so you may feel free to come in and go out as you please. You won't disturb me in the least.

Deborah's lovely house is like a home from home. It is full of lovely pictures and furniture. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen beautiful. Everything was spotlessly clean. I lives staying with Deborah, she was a great host and made me feel very welcome. I would definitely love to return when I can.

My one night at Deborah's was super pleasant - easy to check in, within walking distance of Westbrae and Solano, and the room/house was homey.

The cottage is in a lovely neighborhood in a great location near Solano Avenue with its shops and eateries. Deborah is a very welcoming host. I loved the room, the bed is comfortable and there are handy outlets for recharging laptop and phone. The bottle of water was a nice touch. I need water by the bed at night and as the weather was quite warm, this was very handy (& refillable in the kitchen). The bathroom is right next to the guest room and although it's shared, there was no difficulty about that.

Deborah is a warm, welcoming and most accommodating host! She made my 12-year-old daughter and me feel immediately at home in her lovely little house, which is full of books and interesting nicknacks. I stayed in both the room in the house and the cabin outside (the latter very comfortable despite no power or bathroom). The house is quiet and also spotless (room, bath, kitchen, living room), the kitchen is welcoming (for breakfast, I don't think Deborah wants guests to cook), and the public spaces are very welcoming, too, if a guest wants to table to write at, for instance. And the location is just great, a three-mn walk to Solano ave and a ten-mn drive to Berkeley. I would be delighted to return!

Deborah User ProfileDeborah is a superhost.

Born in Cincinnati, I moved to Montreal when I was 10. From the age of 12, rather like someone in a 19th century novel, I went away to boarding schools, a few of them Catholic convents, I love history and literature, have an MA in English from UC Berkeley, and currently work at the University grading student papers and helping students with their writing. I'm also certified to teach English to speakers of other languages, which I hope to do overseas someday. I've spent extensive time in Mexico, France, and Ghana, and have traveled through Europe, Vietnam, and Mali. I have two children and three grandchildren under 2 1/2. My house tells a story; if you look around, perhaps you'll crack the code.
