The space
Bracken House is a newly renovated 1,085 sq. ft. bungalow, bright and comfortable - pleasantly situated on a 2/3 acre property. The bedrooms all feature large windows that look out on the parks and vineyards about - you'll see many birds that frequent the mature gardens on the property. Cozy up in front of the wood-burning fireplace, and gather round the harvest table or small island adjoining the fully equipped kitchen.

Guest access
Bracken House has a two-night minimum for each booking off season, and a three-night minimum during high season. We maintain a 3-day window between reservations for cleaning/airing/sanitizing.
There is a BBQ and large patio table and lounge area on the rear patio, and casual seating on the front patio. There is a fire pit with 6 Adirondack chairs in the backyard, which makes for further gathering possibilities. There is a large room in the basement with two hide-a-bed couches (double beds), large screen tv, electric fireplace, and a small dining table (great for doing puzzles!). There is also a third full bathroom adjacent to that basement room. Access to the basement laundry facilities is available for reservations of a week or more, or by special request.

Other things to note
If you have a larger group that would require more accommodations, reservations can be made to include one or both of the B&B Suites at Bushy House. Check our other Airbnb listings, and combine the two.
Will it be a late arrival? Want to catch your breath first? Provisions for your first breakfast can be provided upon request, for an additional fee.
All prices include the 13% HST and a 3% Municipal Accommodation Tax.

Neighbourhood highlights

Bracken and Bushy House are just across the road from one of the last stands of Carolinian forest on Lake Ontario, and the beach and wetlands are only a 10 minute walk away. There are places to launch your kayaks, or you can rent them in town. Rental bicycles at Zoom Leisure is another option, on your own - or for a wine tour!
There is a farmer's market on Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings just at the other end of Niven Road, and it is a great place to get some locally grown delicious produce, and meet the people behind them. There are food trucks that gather there, and restaurants as well. Niagara is a great place for food! Several wineries and a craft brewery are nearby, so you can easily find something to complement your meal.
Niagara-on-the-Lake is rich in history, being one of the sites of the war of 1812, and one of the endpoints of the underground railroad. It's strong agricultural roots can be seen in the tender fruit orchards and farm stands nearby. Fresh and seasonal: so good! If shopping is your thing, take a stroll on Queen Street or head over to the outlet mall at the QEW exit. Niagara Falls is a half hour away, and the Niagara Parkway is a very pleasant drive along the river to get there. Of course, the Shaw Festival is very popular, with three theatres running matinees and evening performances. Enjoy!

My work: B&B and Cottage Rental owner/operator, artist.
Speaks English
I am an artist who works primarily in clay, lives creatively, and runs a successful B&B and cottage rental. My husband, David, is an architect (Parker Architects). He & I make breakfasts together, so they are truly a creative (and delish) affair! That's good for you... We are Christians, and strive to live that out with respect, in relationship, and with integrity. And thankfulness. I SO enjoy my book group; throw myself into lots of gardening, and tending the chickens (the 'girls') and our bees (the 'ladies'). Our town of NOTL is small and quaint; we raised our kids here and have some great friendships that set us firmly in this place. Life expands even more as we have formed many friendships with some of the Jamaican seasonal workers who labour in the orchards and vineyards around us. I have even had opportunity to visit some of them and their families in 'back-roads' Jamaica. Our other travels include heading to Western Canada a couple of times a year, where we can connect with family and long-time friends. My sister (Karen Biko) is a painter living in Calgary. Karen & I love to get in the studio together - great energy, making monoprints, etc. (We always watch at least a few movies in the evenings, too.) I do love movies/stories, and knitting (often at the same time - even when there are subtitles). Winter is the best time for such, and that is when I am most in the studio! My studio partner here is my brother-in-law, Andy - also a potter. We hold a Craft Sale once a year at the beginning of December. It's a fun event! However, I usually have stock all year 'round - so DO check out our in-house 'Bushy House Shop' for a gift or two... In case you are wondering, food is also a good thing, and we have our share of local seasonal yummies around us at farm stands in every direction. I'll tell you which ones are my favourites: another opportunity to take some of Niagara home with you... And don't get me started on what music I love: Mozart to Bill Munroe to Van Morrison to Talking Heads to Bear's Den - and a lot of in between. Let's talk!
