Where you’ll be

Aughinish, County Clare, County Clare, Ireland

Aughinish Island is a special magical place off the beaten track of the Wild Atlantic Way complete with a Martello Tower. In the surrounding area within 5 min drive is Traught Beach, a sandy swimming beach on the Doorus Peninsula.

Within 10 minute drive is the lively village of Kinvara. Friday open air market during the summer and several pubs and restaurants to avail of year round as well as annual festivals and art exhibitions and Dunguaire Castle make Kinvara a must see. Further along from Kinvara, Galway City is easily reachable as well as the motorways and Connemara.

10 min away in the opposite direction (towards Clare) is the Flaggy Shore, New Quay. There you can find the Russell Gallery and the famous Linnane's Lobster Bar. Linnane's looks over to Aughinish Island. The flaggy shore, made famous in Seamus Heaney's poem, is across from Aughinish and provides a gorgeous level walk along the shore. Further along into Clare is the gorgeous village of Ballyvaghan with the Tea rooms and Monk's Bar, well worth a visit.

In the Burren, the Burren Perfumery and the Hazel Mountain Chocolate factory are just two of the highlights while exploring the flora and fauna and hiking that the Burren offers. The Cliffs of Moher and Fanore Beach are also within reach (approx 45min drive) making Martello Cottage on Aughinish Island the perfect base for your Wild Atlantic Way holiday.
