A Romantic Retreat -Tastefully converted stone barn with views of 13th C. Abbey ruins & mature garden. Ideal location for touring east coast and Dublin (Airport 30min). Mezzanine bedroom overlooking the open plan living area & wood burning stove.
The space
This barn was converted by the owner in 2008 into a comfortable and inviting open plan living area & kitchen with a mezzanine double bedroom. Exposed stone walls and oak beams are complemented by luxurious furnishings and a cosy wood burning stove.
The kitchen / dining area is equipped with gas hob, 3 in 1 Microwave / grill / convection oven, fridge with ice box and is sufficiently well-equipped to please the keen cook. There is a wet room-style shower room and wc. The living area is snug and cosy with a comfortable couch, wood burning stove and an array of interesting and unusual books on the history, flora and fauna of Ireland. A small staircase leads up to the mezzanine bedroom with comfy double bed, clothes storage and excellent views across the garden and countryside beyond.
This is a really romantic location - so much so that we have had more than ten honeymooning couples stay here and even two proposals (successful ones!)
The accommodation is suitable for up to two adults. Babies are welcome but please note that the barn is not suitable for toddlers or small children due to the steep staircase and wood burning stove.
We have been welcoming guests since 2008.
Guest access
The barn is a detached stone building located in the grounds of the owner's country house. It has it's own parking space and outdoor seating area. The huge oak framed window and double french doors open out to a graveled seating area and gardens, which guests are welcome to enjoy.
Other things to note
A large basket of logs is provided for the stove. Further logs are available from the host for a small fee or from nearby stores.

Where you’ll be
Ardcath, Garristown, Dublin, Ireland
Ardcath is a tiny, quiet village in County Meath, near the border to County Dublin. The village pub is a three minute walk away and is full of character. It hosts an informal traditional Irish music session every Thursday night and guests are welcome, even encouraged, to play or sing. The musicians will even provide you with a musical instrument!
Convenience stores are a 5 minute drive. A selection of restaurants in nearby villages - Kilmoon (4 miles), Stamullen (5 miles), Duleek (4 miles) - and in the local large town of Drogheda (10 miles) provide a wide range of menus to suit all tastes.
This is an excellent location for touring both Dublin city (50mins drive) and the east coast. The Boyne Valley, Newgrange heritage site and the Hill of Tara are within 20mins drive, as are the beaches of Bettystown and Gormanston. Enjoy any one of a dozen excellent golf courses within 20 miles, as well as horse racing at nearby Bellewstown, Fairyhouse or on the strand at Laytown.
Our guests have enjoyed day trips to Wicklow (the Garden of Ireland), the Giants Causeway in Co. Antrim, Carlingford in Co. Louth. Check out hill walking in the Cooley Mountains and exploring the castle ruins in the heritage town of Trim, among many others.
Excellent restaurants, cafes and shopping are available in medieval Drogheda, modern Ashbourne, Skerries and Bettystown which are all a 20 min car journey.
