Situated on 3 private acres, Sea Star Cottage is a charming Nova Scotia vacation home in the picturesque fishing village of Port Mouton.

Large 3 bedroom / 3 bathroom, fully equipped cottage with cable internet, laundry, deck, and BBQ.

The space
Sea Star Cottage is a family friendly cottage with a large living room, separate dining room, study, eat-in kitchen, 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The kitchen is large, bright and fully equipped with everything that you would need for a week at the beach. The living room is furnished with comfortable couches, a flat-screen TV with Chromecast and DVD player, and decorated with a fascinating collection of local maps and sea charts. Just off the living room, the study is lined with bookshelves loaded with an eclectic library of interesting books and games. The downstairs bathroom is a 3 piece with a vintage footed bathtub.

The cottage has three bedrooms upstairs. There is a queen size bed in the master bedroom, and a double bed in each of the second and third bedrooms. The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom. The second and third bedrooms share a second upstairs bathroom. There are laundry facilities in the basement as well as beach toys and chairs.

Outside a deck complete with lawn chairs and a propane BBQ extends the living space. The property is 4 acres and has a large lawn, pasture for the sheep, and pathway to a private rocky shorefront.

So, if you are looking for a holiday that includes beach days, ocean views, and leisurely evenings in a pastoral setting, Sea Star Cottage offers all that and more!

Everything at the cottage is there for you to enjoy. The kitchen is well equipped and stocked with all that you would need for cooking at home. There is a washer and dryer and all bed linens and towels are provided. The cottage has internet access. There are also a couple of bicycles that you can borrow to explore the local area. There is a propane BBQ on the deck.

Other things to note
Sea Star Cottage has a maximum occupancy of 6 guests. Any more must be approved prior to arrival.

There is a set of towels (Beach, Bath, Hand & two face cloths) supplied for each guest. A washer and dryer is available and can be used if you need to refresh the linens.

There is a smart TV (no cable or satellite TV). Guests can access their personal streaming services e.g. Netflix, Disney+ on the TV.

Internet is available at the home. Details will be provided in your welcome package.

The sheep are friendly. They enjoy apples, carrots, and bread. They are cared for by their local owners who may, from time to time, visit them during your stay. Several of the pastures have an electric fence. Please exercise caution when near it.

Ticks are a nuisance throughout the province. Avoid walking in long grass and brush. Use DEET, or similar repellant, on shoes and pants legs. A daily tick-check is prudent.

There are a few patches of poison ivy near the shore. Please stay on the mowed path to avoid it.

Due to the sheep on the property, this is not a pet-friendly rental. We cannot accommodate dogs.

Neighbourhood highlights

Sea Star Cottage is located just down the road from one of Nova Scotia’s most spectacular beaches: Carters Beach. Carters Beach is actually a chain of 3 connected arcs of white sand that each have a slightly different orientation so you can always find a spot out of the breeze. Just a 10 minute walk down the road, it’s possible to go for an early morning stroll on the beach, come home for coffee on the deck, then return for a day in the sand and surf.

The cottage itself is one of the old homesteads. Over the past few years, an original pasture has been reclaimed and is sometimes home to a small flock of friendly sheep who, if they are in residence, will be very interested in what you are doing, but will not bother you in any way. In fact, they are quite delightful. But, because of the sheep, this cottage is not pet friendly.

The 4 acre property stretches from the road to the shoreline. Here the shore is a mix of sandy patches, large boulders and rolled beach stone. There is path winding down through the paddock that leads to the shore.

The Salty Sheep and Sea Star Cottage were built by Philip's great-great grandfather, William Colp, for his family and for his daughter and son-in-law. Philip and Eileen, and their five children, have enjoyed the cottages (and Carters Beach) for more than 35 years. They hope you enjoy it too!
