Romantic Getaway. Seeing it is loving it!
The Caboose is a handcrafted replica of an old train carriage, with a private garden. Set on a property with a historic farmhouse, only 5 minutes drive from the beach and Takaka township. Great for both summer and winter with a pot belly making it cosy on the colder nights and an outside bath for a romantic soak under the stars.

Your stay at the The Caboose in Golden Bay will hopefully be a special experience that you will remember! Close to Takaka and close to the beaches, so perfect as a base for your holiday or as your base to explore the natural wonders Golden Bay has to offer.
We do not offer Wifi or television, hoping you will be able to get away from it all, but there are plenty of books and magazines to keep you occupied and a few games.
And just to let you know ... we have children, so you might hear or see the odd child in the garden, but they will respect your privacy and the fact that you are on holiday and want to relax.
We also have neighbours with farms and lifestyle blocks, so where we can control what happens on our own property, we do not have the ability to stop them from working on their properties and therefor we can offer you privacy and cosiness, but how much we would love to we cannot guarantee you absolute silence.

Some of the feedback we were given:

- Made to feel very welcome. Easy to relax inside and outside the Caboose. Really enjoyed exploring Golden Bay. Nice combination of Art Trail, natural beauty and good food

- Great location and excellent accommodation. The Caboose was beautifully presented and had everything we needed. The perfect place to relax

- Great spot for a get away and top location to base ourselves from to explore golden bay and up to farewell spit! Really nice place to stay and the outside bath, shower, hammock and dining area was ideal and made it even more special for us!

- Thanks so much for the relaxing refuge. Beautifully quiet, would recommend to anyone who needs some time out

- The outside bath is awesome. We'll be back :)

Truly one of the best accommodations my wife and I have ever spent time in - after 40 years of traveling. A small space but absolutely magical and meticulously detailed. A true labour of love created by someone with a genius level of originality and inspiration. This little wonder is dripping with soul. After leaving and checking into our next night's accommodation after leaving Takaka, we felt an overwhelming sense of loss - realizing our one night stay there hadn't been nearly long enough.

- A very unique, relaxing and private get-away! We loved staying in the Caboose with our 2 year old daughter and will happily recommend it to others. The private backyard with outdoor bath and shower were a highlight, and the welcoming eggs and beer a lovely touch. Thank you, I'm sure we will be back!

Where you’ll be

Motupipi, Tasman, New Zealand

Rural outlook over farmlands but close to the beach and lots to explore. Golden Bay is New Zealand's most diverse and appealing holiday destination. Imagine a region with endless variety, where golden beaches, alpine valleys and tranquil fishing rivers share a close proximity with the sea.

The Caboose is on our property, but set at the side of the property we do not use ourselves. We do our best to offer you a private stay and will only come to the Caboose to clean the toilet.

We have neighbours with farms and lifestyle blocks, so where we can control what happens on our own property, we do not have the ability to stop them from working on their properties and therefor we can offer you privacy and cosiness, but how much we would love to we cannot guarantee you absolute silence.

Breathtaking scenery, arts and crafts, sporting activities. There's something for everyone.

Golden Bay is nestled into the South Island's north-west corner. A chain of steep and rugged mountains cuts its fertile river plains and valleys from the rest of the island.

Peter and Lisa moved from The Netherlands to New Zealand-Golden Bay in 2004. We thoroughly enjoy living here in Golden Bay with our sons, our dog and chickens. When we travelled over land to get to New Zealand, most of our journey was done by train, so we were very excited when we had the opportunity to buy The Caboose. We try to offer our guests a comfortable, laid-back Golden Bay experience. We do not offer mod-cons like internet or television. Just a little cosy place where you can be away from it all, if you chose to! Town is not far and you are allowed to bring you cell phone ;-) Living and travelling in Golden Bay means you will get to enjoy a lot of natural beauty being surrounded by the Kahurangi National Park and the Abel Tasman National Park. Hiking, walking, mountain biking, rock climbing, football and river swimming feed our active parts while many artists and little galleries, plenty of cafes and restaurants, the movie theatre and The Roots Bar and the Mussel Inn with their live music feed our creative parts. While we will do our best to make you feel welcome at The Caboose, we will also endeavour to give you as much privacy as possible. But, you are always welcome to come to the house and ask for anything you need, want or would like!

Welcome.
Happy to assist with anything needed, wanted or liked. We will leave you in peace and only clean the toilet for you. We will do that when you're away and will not bother you or come at the side of the property where The Caboose is located. If you needs us: Just come to back door of the house!
