Come stay on a family-friendly working farm! We are a certified cow dairy and creamery and also raise laying chickens, emus and other animals. A large, well-equipped guest house sleeps 8+ . Watch our adorable cows be milked and take care of their calves, taste fresh cheese, ice cream and yogurt, observe the animals grazing during the day, hike, explore the pond and creek, or just relax on the deck. Located in Sierra-Nevada foothills, 30 min from Auburn, 1 hr from Sacramento.

The space
Located in the beautiful foothills in between Auburn and Lincoln, our 90 acre farm is home to a herd of Scottish Highland, Dutch Belted and other heritage breed dairy cattle, emus, pigs, goats, (many) chickens, ducks, guinea fowl, donkeys and horses-- as well as the more conventional dogs and cats and abundant wildlife.

We are a working dairy farm and creamery producing yogurt, butter, ice cream and cheese. There is also a large population of free range laying chickens for eggs. We are committed to high standards of animal happiness and general welfare and are on the leading edge of ethical dairy and egg production.

The grounds include various gardens, trails to hike, a creek for swimming and a pond with a row boat. A hedge surrounds a secret garden with a sandbox and seasonal grapes and roses and picnic area. Our antique firetruck is a popular play site and we have a structure with slide, rock wall, and swings.

Our place is perfect for kids or anyone who loves the outdoors and animals and would enjoy a taste of farm life or just relax in the quiet.

The air-conditioned house has four bedrooms, a sitting area and full living room- dining room combination as well as a deck with view of meadows and ponds. Two rooms have queen beds, one room has a double bed, and the 4th room has two single beds. The sitting area has a queen-sized hide-a-bed.

The fully equipped kitchen is complete with pots, pans, tableware, small (Melitta style) drip coffee maker with grinder. Oils, coffee beans, and standard condiments are stocked. We provide eggs and some dairy products. An assortment of dairy products are usually available for purchase too. Note that we do NOT provide or sell liquid milk.

A washer-dryer in the house is also available for your use.

Guest access
Guests have access to the whole farm with restrictions designed to keep our animals and visitors as safe as possible.
There are also nice trails to walk in the surrounding community.

As a working farm, we do have rules to maintain sanitation around our food production areas and bio-security requirements around chicken areas and the dairy.

There is a small, heated, indoor pool suitable for younger children (located in a separate building from the rental house) that is available for use in the afternoons during the hot summer months.

Other things to note
We have 7 working dogs on the farm, four of which are quite large. Their main role is to guard against predators at night but they are often around during the day as well. They are very used to visitors -- both human and canine -- and are quite friendly and will escort you on walks. Children, even those who don't like dogs, often leave saying the dogs were their favorite part of the farm. That said, please consider this if you decide to bring a pet along.

This is a working farm and business and most your hosts' time is required to keep things operating. We are happy to give orientation tours and guide you on other activities as time permits.

It is extremely hot in this part of California during May-August. The days are long so most people plan outdoor activities or the morning and evening.

As a working farm there are, at times, smells, dirt, insects and noises that are very different from the city. The chickens can keep people up at night, as can bellowing bulls and our dogs chasing off predators. There isn't anything we can do to predict or control these 'natural' annoyances.

Our property feels extremely remote and secluded but in reality is a short drive from several towns. Our place is located about 55 min from Sacramento and the airport, 30 minutes from Auburn and Roseville and 20 minutes from Lincoln. Lincoln and Roseville have plenty of shopping and dining options. The Placer County Wine Trail is about 10 minutes away. The nearest Whole Foods is in Roseville and Auburn and Lincoln have a selection of specialty and chain groceries. Newcastle Produce (in Newcastle) is highly recommended as are the Foothills Farmers' markets in Old Town Auburn on Saturdays and at the Roseville Fountains mall on Tuesdays.

Placer County offers a variety of recreation including hiking, swimming, rafting and historical sites. Grass Valley and Nevada City are about 45-50min drive.

During your stay
As much or little as desired. We are happy to give tours and involve guests in farm activities like grooming and feeding animals. Just ask. Of course if you are looking for solitude we can provide that too (assuming a moo or crowing rooster doesn't bother you).
