Room in a cottage

Your own room in a home, plus access to shared spaces.
Make some memories on this small, FAMILY-FRIENDLY hill farm, where the furnishings and gentler rhythms and practices of the past are still uniquely present!

I invite you to share my home and farm life!
At 1000ft in this picture postcard valley, between the Radnor Hills and the Cambrian Mts, my cottage is nestled in a tiny hamlet in what was once claimed to be "the quietest village in Wales"! Happily, very little has changed!

The space
This is a truly adventurous place for youngsters, with opportunities to meet farm animals, spot wildlife and explore the play possibilities of fields and hill, wood and brook.

I invite you to make yourselves so at home, that it may feel that I am living with YOU! This has worked so well before, and I love being a guest in my own nest!

THIS LISTING IS FOR BOOKING THE ATTIC SPACE,
but an insight is given into an additional room which MAY be available to accommodate a larger family or sporting/touring group.
The 2 ROOMS together can SLEEP 7 (including infant).

* ATTIC FAMILY BEDSIT - double bed and 2 floor mattresses, plus cot, by request - a cosy and quirky space, with books and board games.

* GROUND FLOOR SINGLE/TWIN (chair converts to substantial bed), suitable for older child(ren), or seniors e.g. grandparents, or others preferring to avoid stairs. (Also available separately under the listing: Over the Moon - Unique Hideaway in Shared Home!)

SHARED BATHROOM on GROUND FLOOR, shower larger than average and with seat.

The KITCHEN is very much not my domain, so you are welcome to make it yours! The table there seats 6 and looks out over the garden, fields and hill, animals and wildlife.
So you are most welcome to cook or reheat food. Fridge and freezer space is limited, but if you let me know your storage requirements in relation to your length of stay, i am happy to adjust the spread of my own reserves!
PLEASE NOTE : I regret I do not offer "breakfast included", as, with the varying patterns and demands of farm care, plus the distance to the shops, i cannot guarantee i will have the opportunity to ensure all supplies are present or fresh! I do, however, invite you to help yourselves to whatever is available, as a stop-gap in your own provisioning, or to complement what you have brought. A piggy bank on the windowsill is happy to receive donations in lieu!

The LIVING ROOM is cosy cottage style, the focus is the open fire of the original Victorian range.
Please note, I have a tv only for the purpose of playing dvds, and have a wide selection, including for children!

ROOM for LIVING is mostly outside! You are welcome to wander and to rest, to cook in the fire circle, to eat in the garden, by the brook, on the hill...

All land and animal care is gentle, minimally mechanised, and free from drugs and chemicals. You are welcome to join me on my rounds and in my activities, where i can offer an EDUCATIONAL INSIGHT into the history of life and farming in this place, and into the regeneration of soil health and biodiverse habitats. Tom the dog will keep things moving, and FUN-CENTERED!

Guest access
Private parking in the garden.
Access to the house is flat.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE :
Attic is accessed by a ladder (pitched at an angle, with flat steps), through the floor. This hole is unguarded. Parental supervision is essential - and has been unfailingly successful.

During your stay
My interaction with you begins with your enquiry, and, already at this stage, I hope it will be helpful if i note that, as well as this being my home, it is also my place of work...out in the fields, where there is neither mobile nor wifi signal! I return to the house at regular intervals and deal with messages as promptly as i can. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

The same reasons apply in relation to the need for clarity over check in arrangements - and communicating any changes to your schedule in time on the day...so that i can organise my work to be near the house to greet you...and know, with sufficient warning, to adjust this, if necessary. Thank you again for your understanding!

Other things to note
It is IMPORTANT that you are prepared for the conditions below, that you know you and your family/group are going to be comfortable with them as part of the charm of the way of life and the home I invite you to share!

PLEASE NOTE - currently
ONLY 2 TABLE TOP ELECTRIC RINGS FOR COOKING!
Please organise your menu accordingly!

The outstanding QUALITY of this UNIQUE HIDEAWAY in a SHARED HOME, confirmed by so many delighted reviews, is its absolute SERENITY - a profound stillness and night sky darkness - conducive to a DEEP DETOX.
In sympathy with the 19thC.ambianceof a working farm cottage to support this GENTLE LIVING, there is no TV, only patchy mobile reception, and wifi suitable for just modest 21stC.needs. Desks are available for your comfort, but are not ideal "work spaces" - unless you work with pen and paper, or maybe inspired to use quill and parchment?!
This is, however, the dreamiest idyll in which to REST, RETUNE, REIGNITE YOUR CREATIVITY....or come farming!!!

A word about "cleanliness"...not so much "next to Godliness", as the chapel is opposite, but close!
As a former health care professional, and now carer of animals, hygiene is tops in all daily routines, in all areas."Cleanliness" is, however, of a standard realistically achievable and, let's face it, relaxed on a working farm, and in a cottage with original open grate, which may deliver dust as well as the cosiest blaze!
But be assured, your own cleaning needs are served by the recently added bathroom, and, by arrangement, washing machine. I lived here 10 years without either, and life was just as sweet!

Neighbourhood highlights

Llaithddu is a mis-spelling of "llaeth ty", milk house, or dairy, and said to be the site of the dairy of the monks of Abbey Cwmhir. We live "under" our hillside bluebell wood - Milk Wood, obviously, if you are familiar with Dylan Thomas!
The neighbourhood is special in having NO coffee shops, fast food chains, shopping centres, multiplexes, parking wardens, or even, worse luck, charity shops! Electricity only arrived in the village in 1964, and a bathroom in the farmhouse just 7 years ago! I think we've given up on Broadband! But our glass is very much more than half full!
