About this listing

This guest house overlooks the East Verde River five miles outside of Payson Arizona. The detached unit has a full bath, dorm room fridge, microwave and hotplates. Barbecue on the porch. Easy access to hiking, fishing, swimming and biking.

The space

A detached guest house with a studio kitchen, the house overlooks the East Verde River with its own entrance and lots of privacy.

Guest access

Park in front, come and go as you please and walk down to the swimming holes on the trout-stocked East Verde River.

Interaction with guests

I always like to greet folks and talk about what they might like to do -- otherwise, it's like owning your own house on the river. I'll leave the door unlocked before your visit, so you can check right in even if the timing doesn't work out for me to meet you.

Other things to note

Great hiking and biking trails out the front door. You can bring a pet -- but we don't have a fenced yard. Lots of wildlife, great for birdwatching.

We spent two nights at the end of a touring vacation and could not have been more pleased with our choice! The neighborhood is very quiet, the cottage is solidly built, beautifully furnished and tastefully decorated, and the outdoor space is a wonderful bonus! The artwork suggests a work in progress and there are obviously ongoing improvements. We were treated to a new deck area with plush furnishings. This was the perfect place to enjoy the night sky and drift off to sleep under the stars while being serenaded by nature's chorus. Three elk cows strolled by one evening. However natural the setting, this cottage could not be described as "rustic". It is upscale, spacious, recently renovated and no detail has been overlooked. It has a vast and diverse entertainment collection and the kitchen and bath have everything imaginable. We reveled in our time there and would definitely stay again if the opportunity arises.

Peter's description of the place is pinpoint accurate. They have a VHS player fully stocked with nostalgic throwbacks from anybodies childhood. The location is beautiful and the outdoor deck and fire pit create the perfect big city escape.

Had a great time the two days we stayed here. Communication was great and the house was easy to find. Lots of great walking trails right down from the driveway. Our dog loved playing in the river. My husband and I had a nice relaxing trip. We enjoyed the selection of the movies that were available and sitting outside enjoying our dinner and the surrounding nature.

What a fabulous 4 days we spent in this spacious, cozy cabin that met all our needs. We enjoyed wine on the deck watching the river and all the a activity that comes with rivers. The squirrels entertained us for hours, when it got too dark outside we enjoyed a fabulous movie collection. Don't miss reading the hiking guide book, we found hikes that met our level, the Payson Museum is a must.. The Tonto bridge is minutes away.. so centrally located... can't wait til our next visit!
