Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
From the moment you arrive at this luxurious, secluded and supremely natural residence, you will be surrounded by 9 acres of breathtaking walkways, forest, open skies and open fields. Featured are a living green roof, natural renewable building materials, and solar power. Experience nature in an environmentally sustainable open concept award-winning natural home.

The space
Our home was built from the ground up to be the ultimate eco-haven and is a sustainable design award-winner. The home uses natural building materials like strawbale walls and local/renewable wood. The design is passive solar, managing both heating and cooling without any conventional mechanical systems. That means we have no conventional air-conditioning system nor any conventional furnace. For cooling in the summer the green roof, awning above the south facing windows, window ventilation and fans provide all the cooling we need. In the winter when extra heat is required the in-floor hydronic heating system kicks in to make sure we are always comfortable. All energy is provided by renewable sources (there are zero fossil fuels for heating or cooling). The south face of the house incorporates 6 kW of solar PV as an awning above the windows as well as three large solar thermal hot water heating panels (for both domestic and home heating). There is also a 1 kW wind turbine on the property. We park a 2012 Chevy Volt electric vehicle in the car port on a level 2 charger.

Guest access
Guests have access to everything in the house except for some of the utility areas in the basement.

A utility building on the property is off limits to guests. Inside the utility building we grow food using a sustainable system called Aquaponics, fish and plants growing in a closed system that uses 90% less water than conventional agriculture. As well we process food waste in an advanced composting machine, returning carbon to the soil and replenishing nutrients and microbes. This area may be used at any time by the owner and his partner. It is situated about forty feet from the house.

Other things to note
The property is an active regenerative farm. We have a growing number of fruit trees, an increasing number of grow beds, a hoop house to extend the growing season, and a utility building that is off limits to guests. We are situated in a rural farming area, so occasional farm smells are a part of being on a farm property.

There are lots of great restaurants nearby and other local farms provide fresh produce all year long, in particular Am Braigh and Reid’s.

There is a ping pong table in the basement.

Hills of the Headwaters is a great place to live and visit. We have the Bruce trail less than a few hundred feet from the house. The gorgeous Hockley Valley provides great hiking and exploring, as well as skiing/boarding in the winter and golf in the summer.

More than a decade ago we set out on a journey to create a home that was sustainable for our children. Part of that plan was to make the house a renewable energy power plant eliminating the need for any non-renewable energy sources. By 2001 we had built our award-winning sustainable natural home using local straw bales for the north wall, a green roofing system we custom designed, and passive solar design. All the details including a documentary video are on our web site Wilson Natural Home. Check it out.
