The space

Using natural and used building products where possible, the space was designed to be rustically luxurious, playful, creative and welcoming.
The 10 ft wide otherwise recessed movie screen comes down when the apple iTV (with access to netflicks, etc. but not regular cable) is turned on and is best viewed while in the hot tub or while lounging on a 9 piece sectional couch.
Inspired by the mini-house movement, when the table in the back area is lowered the back area functions as a board room (or as a dining room when the L-shaped hidden kitchen armoire is opened). And when the in-wall control for the electric hoist is pressed, the table disappears and raises against the ceiling so the luxurious queen murphy bed can be pulled down from built in custom designed furniture when it is bedtime. (Note that the benches no longer come down separately as is shown in the video).
The hidden sliding glass doors will allow you to keep the entire space open-concept, or gain privacy in the bedroom area and/or hot tub area as you desire.
In the winter, the 2" thick stone floor is heated by in floor heating as well as the NG fireplace. Water is heated in part by solar panels.
The steam shower competes well against the 6-8 person Hottub (4 ft deep, recessed into the ground 1 ft) for most relaxing. Every light in the space is dimmable and ready for whatever mood you want to create.
NOTE: access to the backyard or to bicycles are not available for reasons associated with COVID. Thanks for understanding!
Guest access
The space is the basement of a 110 year old well maintained heritage home in Halifax. Access is through a dedicated arched medieval church like door on the side of the house. Another dedicated glass french door serves as a second entrance.
Other things to note
As the house is located at the center of Dalhousie university, there is a 2 hr parking ban on week days (nights and weekends are ok). Our driveway is long enough to fit multiple cars (although it may take some coordination of keys if for some reason we are not going to work that day as it is a single lane driveway). Generally the entire driveway is available so parking shouldn't be an issue.
