Just 50m back from a quiet, sandy beach. 2 self-contained apartments, 2 big dbl bedrooms, 2 baths, comfy lounge/kitchen - and balcony/patio looking right out over the sea. Quiet, safe & uncrowded beach - swimming at all tides.
There are two apartments in our house, situated just 20m back from the beach in Ao Yon. On the SE peninsula of Cape Panwa, it's one of the few uncrowded corners of Phuket, yet still within easy distance of the island's other attractions. The lower apt also has a dbl bed settee, so can sleep 6 if you are cosy! Free wi-fi.
At present, only the ground floor apartment is available.
Quiet, but growing (URL HIDDEN) Yon now has a few more developments. A couple of big hotels have now mushroomed up in the bar; though happily "our" beach is still hardly crowded. There are some plus points of having other facilities around; just a 100m along the beach, you can treat yourself to a massage, or a cool cocktail on the beach at the "Brasserie". For more local ambiance, there are a couple of little bars and restaurants just 5-10 mins walk along the beach. Panwa Village is 5 mins drive away, with the Phuket Aquarium & a variety of little shops & restaurants on the waterfront.
For anyone into boating - there are two small sailing schools just a few mins along the beach - book a series of lessons, or just take a dinghy out for the afternoon!
Getting around: If you are staying for any length of time, you'll probably want to consider getting your own transport of some kind. Just at the top of our road, there is a place to rent scooters and cars (the lady there will do your laundry for next-to-nothing too!). Whilst there are places to eat and drink within walking distance, the closest little grocery shops & markets would be about 5 mins drive away. The nearest big supermarket is about 15-20mins. We do have a great connection with a local taxi driver, who will ferry you around the island too, if you're not keen on driving yourself.
Interaction with guests
My partner and I run a small yacht charter company ((URL HIDDEN) and live in the upper apartment ourselves during the main season. We are always happy to help and chat ! Sometimes we are away on our boat, but if we are not there, a local friend will meet you to explain about the area; you can drop into her little "yachtie" bar anytime for a beer, her amazing cooking, and a chat with the other locals! We are always contactable via phone or email if we are away during your stay.
Other things to note
Other attractions nearby:
Kao Khad Views Tower - stunning at sunset
Panwa Village - shops, bars, bakery. 5mins drive
Phuket Town - the "local" town - 15 mins drive
Kata, Karon, Naiharn, Rawai Beaches - the more "touristy" (but still very lovely!) beaches - 20-30 mins drive.
Patong - crazy nightlife, fun markets! 30-35 mins drive.
Central Festival - shopping galore - 15-20 mins.
Please be aware that as an Airbnb place, we don't provide cleaning, linen changes, etc, during your stay; it's like your own home, not a hotel. We do have a local cleaner who we can organise for you if you like; and there's cheap and easy full-service laundry facilities just a few mins up our road.
This is a homely, residential area; the sounds one hears normally in the evenings are the mellow wash of waves on the beach. Whilst drinks, company and fun on the balcony are great, we do ask that our guests respect the tranquil ambiance of the area, and not play loud music, party on into the night, etc. There are bars around locally to do as much of that as you like !
Please do not smoke inside; the smell lingers no matter how careful you are. Outside is fine.
Well-behaved pets are welcome. Ditto with kids.
My partner and I run a small yacht charter business, and this is our home base in Phuket - the gorgeous, off-the-tourist-tracks Ao Yon. We moor our boat here during the dry season, going out for a week or two at a time to take our guests around the islands. We're early/late 50s, but still love living in the Peter Pan world of the sailing biz :).
Our place is a long ways from a plush 5* apartment; but if you're the sort of person who thinks "oh yawn, not another character-less resort" - you'll love our place! Despite a couple of new developments in the area, Ao Yon is still a quiet, friendly little beach community. We feel very lucky to be able to live here, right on the beach with million dollar views - at cruising yachtie prices! :)
In the main season, we live in the upstairs apartment; the ground floor is open for guests. From April-Nov, we migrate to Greece (where we run our sailing biz there) - the top apartment is available as well then. We pack all our personal stuff in one bedroom, so that it becomes effectively a 1 bed apartment.
We're very sociable types, and if we're around when you visit, we'd love to chat and give you all the local lowdown. When we are not here, a local friend looks after our guests; she can no doubt tell you even more about the area!
