Restored 200 year old sea captains home provides modern conveniences while preserving the charm and warmth of the past. There are 4 independent apts, all with private entry ways, in this building of which apt 4 is one. Situated on two levels, it has a living room, eating area,and a fully equipped kitchen on the ground floor in an open plan setting, and 1 bedrooms ( double ), and the bathroom with shower stall, on the second floor. A door from the bedroom opens onto a deck which overlooks the back garden.
Kayaking from our dock on Deckers Cove to innner islands and waterways or the open ocean. Beach at Hendricks Head and unpretentious yacht club with renowned sailing school are 2 miles up the road from the apartment, as is Olivers Restaurant and a substantial general store. Also available are hiking trails ( a bigger network is off the island ), biking and a well stocked, modern library. Boothbay Harbor with its full slate of marine activities, an aquarium, and the now famous Botanical Gardens, are just minutes away. LL Bean, Portland, Rockland/Camden, Owls Head Motor and aircraft museum, are all just over an hour away.
Interaction with guests
The Owners also live on the island and are available to provide assistance and help quickly. There is no formal check-in/check-out procedure; the facility is unlocked when guests first arrive with keys inside. At the front end the owners provide a short orientation about the facility and the area, and generally visit daily to pick up garbage and to water the plants.
Other things to note
Southport is an island about 6 miles long and 2 miles across at its widest. Access is by means of a swing bridge which opens on the half hour for boat traffic. The serenity of this island setting is augmented by nearby Boothbay Harbor and its varied marine activities, restaurants, art galleries, shops, antique stores, live theater, movie theater, aquarium ,botanical gardens,etc. For families with children the nearby beach at Hendricks Head is fun and picturesque.Biking enthusiasts have various possibilities on and of the island. Small boats, kayaks, and canoes can tie-up at our dock from where access to the open ocean and surrounding islands and waterways/coves is feasible and safe. There is much to be explored on the island...a quaint seaside church, the landing at Newagen and its bold ocean views, hiking trails, a historical museum, a town library, and a couple of picturesque harbors. Both formal and informal dining is within walking distance of the apartment.
This is a no-smoking/ no- pets facility.There are no cleaning fees nor a security deposit. But, we expect our renters to leave the premises in a resonably clean and tidy condition. More specifically, all trash must be removed, soiled laundry collected in certain areas, all house furnishings returned to their original locations, all kitchenware cleaned and stowed as found, central heating switched off. On the outside, all garden furniture, and BBQ units should be returned to their original locations.
