There is access to the Puget Sound beach below (about a 5 minute walk) where you can walk the beach. Access is dependent on tides. Crabbing is possible during season. (Directions available at the cabin)

Guest access
When arriving from the north look for the mailbox and drive to the top of the driveway and enter through the back door.
Ruby's is about 70 miles north of Seattle. Depending on traffic, it takes about 1.5 hours. Take Hwy 532 exit to Stanwood and Camano Island.

Other things to note
Ruby's cottage is an airy, cabin that perches on the hill off the road. It has the cozy feel of the 1940s. In the time we've lived on the island, it has, like us, become historic.

Things to do:
Ruby's has access to the Puget Sound beach below (about a 5 minute walk) where there is crabbing, beach-combing and plenty of peace and quiet. Access is dependent on tides.

The trail down is rather steep but there is an easier public access less than a mile to the north.

In the backyard there is a picnic table, plenty of bird watching and star gazing. Deer are often in the backyard and will set off the motion sensor outdoor light. They think the light is for them so they can eat the flowers and shrubs.

This is a rural residential neighborhood surrounded by tall firs and the neighbor's private woods in back. Next door to the north is a 17 acre farm with its original barn and 1930's house. Across the street is a housing development but the view of the Sound and the Olympics is over their rooftops.

My husband Jack and I have lived on the south end of Camano Island since 1977. For the fun of it we have named the rental cabin for the person we think had it built in the 1940s, Ruby. We live in the property next door and over the years we have planted vegetable and flower gardens, built sailboats and kayaks, constructed greenhouses and workshops. We remodeled the original 1915 house into the glass studio and built a new house up the hill. Now semi-retired, we both love traveling, gardening, walking the woods and the beaches. Jack plays banjo in a band called the South End String Band and I love the local history and am a former librarian.
