Our secluded unconventional house in North Vancouver is quite magical. Its nestled up in the tress of 2 acres of private rainforest. Mountain biking, skiing, kayaking, hiking, golfing, beaches within 7 mins. Downtown Vancouver only 20 minutes away.
Our 4400 Sq Ft (410 square meters) house is quite unique. Modern rustic in decor and well suited for families and parties that are active and adventurous.
There are two wings and both have separate entrance or you can just use one entry point to access both wings.
In the Main wing, the master bedroom has a king sized bed and the other room as a double bed plus a single bed tucked up in a view loft/nook accessible only via a ladder. (The kids love this!)
In the North wing, there is a suite with a Queen bed and a double sofa bed as well.
There is also a large separate area (590 sq ft) with a (200 sq ft) loft space. There there are 2 built-in single beds that are just so unique to the space.
There is also a cozy built-in climb-up double bed nook in the media room as well.
We are not a TV watching family, though we have a large screen TV but NO cable and located only in the media room. No television in any other bedrooms.
This space is serene yet grand and it is extremely private. One cannot see the house from street level for it is tucked up high in mid-line of giant pine trees.
This house is designed for social gatherings where the open plan with wood and beam high ceilings and the split levels provide spaces for multiple functions at the same time. Not to mention the Aga stove! If you love to cook, you will love this over 700 sq ft (65 square meters) kitchen.
It has a great working wood burning fireplace and a middle-grand piano in the living room just waiting to be used. Great place to get cozy after a long day of mountain biking, golfing, kayaking, paddle boarding or skiing and curl up by the giant sofa with a book and a cup of hot ginger tea.
There is also a large 700 sq ft (65 sq meters) patio space where you can dine el fresco in the warmer days.
Kids of all ages LOVE this house. Mainly because of the unusual layout, it maybe large but it is also very cozy, therefore it is a dream to play hide and seek in.
This is definitely not a conventional house. To get to the front door, one needs either to walk up around 100 steps, intertwined in the trees, or have the gusto to drive up a steep driveway.
The spaces inside and outside throughout property will surprise you with delight.
No guest access to our garage, study and basement of the house.
Interaction with guests
I will be here to give you full orientation of the house when you arrive. I can also give help you plan meals (where to by the best local produce etc.) and show you how to use the Aga stove.
We love helping our guests to find the best Vancouver has to offer. Let us know what you are looking for and we'd be more than happy to help you plan activities for your trip, down to where to grocery shop (ie. farmers markets), find the best local seafood, awesome interesting restaurants, connect you with amazing caterers for large parties or celebration dinners as well as organic food delivery services.
Other things to note
** IF YOU ARE NEW TO AIRBNB, please ensure that your profile is filled out so we will have a better sense of who you are when you request booking.
FOR ALL BOOKING REQUESTS, please describe the make up of your group for the reason listed below:
1. Any small or very active children that could be staying/visiting? Our property is quite unique and not "conventional" to the usually child-safe homes. The architecture is designed with its geological constraints in mind, there will be overhangs or stairs without railings. We do not have stair gates and the house is not "child proofed". We have 2 boys under 7 and never had there a time where I felt they would be in danger...but then again, they grew up here :)
2. We also have very very VERY steep driveway from the street level that needs a driver that is not afraid to get to the top OR willing to walk up 100+ steps to reach the front door. Your car should be in good running condition and have decent tires.
3. Only 3 cars maximum are allowed to park on the property. One street parking is available.
This unique house is nestled in 2 acres of rainforest but note that we do not have a flat "backyard" or a "lawn" to frolic in. We do have an overgrown trail that you are welcome to blaze through to find mushrooms, salmonberries or huckleberries depending the time of year of your visit.
Please feel free to ask me any questions regarding our property.
No access to garage or den.
No smoking please, inside or outside. This house is situated in the forest and very strict fire rules applied. A fine of $500 USD will be taken from security deposit if evidence of smoking is found. Thank you for your understanding.
No bonfires. (you may be tempted because of the setting, but please don't.)
Dogs allowed but please let me know what kind of dog and how many.
3 car maximum parked on the top of the hill.
Check out after 4 pm will be charged an extra $250 USD.
We are a Canadian family that enjoys living in what we think the best part of Vancouver. North Vancouver's natural beauty is unsurpassed in my opinion and we love being hosts to anyone that come to visit.
We speak both English and Cantonese and we have two little boys that we homeschool. I have a background in interior, graphic and web design while my husband Vince–the vintage car & mountain bike enthusiast– the ex-mechanical engineer, is in project management for a great IT company based in Gastown Vancouver.
As a family, our motto is eat well and live simple. We thrive on family time through travelling, visiting and support local farms and small growers, the great outdoors and volunteer work.
Before having children, both Vince and I had travelled extensively throughout Europe, Asia and South America. We love learning about other cultures, their customs and most importantly their food! Now that we are a bit less mobile with young children, we love being host to visitors and share all the amazingness this area of our world has to offer.
