Location

Flagmount, Clare, Ireland

The property is surrounded by natural beauty. Which is ever changing with the seasons, each with its own charm and colour pallete making this a perfect place to stay all year round for anybody who wants to take time out to connect with nature and to ponder the deeper meaning of life ! You will be surrounded by undisturbed peace and beauty, no traffic noise or light pollution , just wilderness and abundant diversity of trees, shrubs and flowers everywhere and of course the amazing geodome. The air is fresh and clean and you can really feel the benefit of being high up in the hills. The cabin is next to the beautiful Irish bog which is covered in heather and blueberries and wild flowers like scabious which attracts rare butterflies..This year there was also a sighting of the exquisite hummingbird hawk moth. The area is under special environmental protection as a Hen harrier habitat. The birdsong in spring is a delightful chorus and the swallows return to their nests around the yard every year to swoop about till autumn. Deer, pheasants, badgers, foxes and red sqirrels live around here and can sometimes be seen when walking. Betsy and Bonnie love to accompany you for a stroll on the mountain ( Betsy on a lead) and Bonnie will be your best friend for life if you don’t mind throwing balls ! You will be close to wonderful lakes and vistas. The cabin is directly on the East Clare way walking route and gives direct access to miles of walking without seeing a car ! so its the perfect stop off for walkers for a couple of nights. It is within easy reach of music pubs and venues including the famous Feakle folk festival ( 10 minutes drive ) during August, with weekly trad music sessions all year. The pretty village and harbour of mountshannon is under 30 minutes drive or a wild and invigorating 4 hour walk over the hills on a very quiet track with outstanding views. From Mountshannon you can take a boat ride to the beautiful holy island monastic site on lough derg and visit the small local market and cafe. The mounshannon arts festival is on in May/June. Scarrif is a sweet small rural town 20 mins away with a selection of shops etc, and a community co op , garden and cafe. The surrounding area boasts, among other things, the home of Brian Boru, one of the oldest churches in Ireland, and seedsavers which is Ireland's premier native species seedbank where many interesting courses are hosted and has a great shop for horticultural enthusiasts. 35 minutes drive away Kilaloe/ Ballina are picturesque spots on the banks of the river Shannon which boast excellent eating places and an organic Sunday market and the characterful town of Ennis is 40 minutes away and the lively popular city of Galway is an hour and a bit . The cabin is conveniently located for accessing the wild atlantic way and the uniquely beautiful lunar landscape of the Burren geopark, and spectacular Clare coastline including the cliffs of moher and loophead hills and lighthouse. - all the above are a fabulous day trip - especially by motorcycle ! The lovely small towns of Gort 20 mins, kinvara 40 mins and Ballyvaughn (1 hour) offer great historical sites, walks, crafts, local produce etc. But the main attraction here is the tranqility. This is truly a beautiful retreat space which is off the beaten track. No traffic, no light pollution, an abundance of nature, crystal clear mountain water on tap and some but limited access to technology makes this the perfect detox for anybody looking for an escape to unplug and unwind from the stresses of life.
Professional and confidential Art Therapy is available here ( individual and group sessions ) at discounted rates for airbnb guests with a fully qualified and experienced practitioner, so if you would like to avail of this service while you are here please contact Margaret at ravenseyetherapy@gmail.com ( website coming soon) for more information. Sessions take place in a lovely bright studio space and private and deeply relaxing therapy room and can be arranged to fit your schedule.
County clare is world famous for its music, scenery and warm hearted people but it is also a place of innovation, Art, ecology and holistic practice with a vibrant and diverse international community so come and be inspired !
