Guest access
The whole of our 40 acre property, which is totally bounded by rainforest, is accessible to you. The houses and cabin cannot be seen from the road. To get to them you drive ~200 metres initially down off the bitumen road into the forest. You do this on a well made driveway that continues up through the forest over a low rise. On the other side of that rise, as you come out of the forest, will see a house on the left and when you pass that, a much bigger house (our home). Please follow the road as it curves to the left around the garage end of our house and park facing the shed like structure with 2 storage bays in its left and a space for a car in its right. Please walk towards the large verandah on your left where you will see the stairs that provide the entrance to our home, go up them and let us know you have arrived.

The cabin is hidden from our house by the 3 bay structure as well as numerous tall palms. Trees and flowering plants lie on the 3rd side and its verandah faces the lake edge. There are rustic steps down to a platypus viewing " seat" below where one can sit with a coffee or wine in your hand to watch for platypus in the early morning or late afternoon until dusk!

The cabin is accessed by a door from that verandah.

The cabin lies on the Maroobi Creek inlet into Lake Tinaroo within Maroobi Park and it's outdoor living spaces provide a lovely private place to relax plus an ideal location from which to explore the Atherton Tablelands. .
• MAROOBI Park is a private 16.2 hectare (40 acre) hilly and forested property. This is an area of great beauty with a plethora of attractions some of which are: Lake Tinaroo, Lake Eacham & Lake Barrine very close by, the huge Curtain and Cathedral Fig Trees (7 and 12 kms away), Hypipamee Crater, various swamps famous for their bird life, Waterfalls, the historic town of Yungaburra (6kms), numerous galleries and historic old time Herberton. For an easy day visit afield you can visit: Paronella Park, the Chillago Caves, the Undarra Lava tubes.
There are the rare tree kangaroos, cassowaries, and a huge variety of birds including Brush Turkeys to see in this area and if you go out at night on our property with a powerful torch you can can see a large quoll, betongs, pademelons, bandicoots and orange footed scrub fowls. Our resident curlews and wallabies can be seen during the daytime as well as at nights. The bird and butterfly life is simply prolific! Platypus are plentiful adjacent to the cabin when Lake Tinnaroo has enough water. We can advise you where to find them if it is a low rainfall year and we only have a creek adjacent to the cabin.

Location

We live on a 40 acre/16.6 hectares property in a very picturesque and friendly rural neighborhood 6 km from beautiful historic Yungaburra located in tropical Atherton Tablelands. Our cabin is situated amidst rainforest with water frontage. An Outdoor room and Verandah are great places to relax and eat your meals. We have a CHIMINEA there to keep you warm outside if you choose. you can also eat in the kitchen at the roomy breakfast bar.
There are several small towns within 10km. The nearest larger town is Atherton (20km) There are a number of country pubs (our favourite pub is the Peeramon (9 kms), restaurants, 13 kms) just a short drive away. Our favourite markets are Yungaburra (4th Sat.) & Tolga (1st Sun. of month). The Mareeba market (2nd and 5th Sat. of month quite large with local produce, flowers, art and crafts. Malanda has a similar market.
The Tablelands have a lively arts and crafts scene with many galleries etc.
In general you will find Tableland people friendly and helpful.

Tim and I are retired education professionals. We live 6km from Yungaburra in the Atherton Tablelands in tropical North Queensland. We have loved this area for a long time before we retired and were able move there in June 2011. Our daughter suggested that we put our Studio on airbnb (previously used as a week-ender). We spent 6 months making it spic and span and after 4 years I am giving it a re-vamp. We now have a limited season due to our many and varied vacations and our newly developed love of making pots and playing around with glass. We have been renovating ever since we arrived. I am currently re-vamping our studio and have are making the final touches to our new addition to Airbnb our 2 bedroom house (on our property before putting it on airbnb too. After hearing about Airbnb from our daughter we decided to give it a try. Several years ago we traveled through New Mexico using Airbnb for all our accommodation and we have just arrived home after a 35 day trip through France and England staying with 9 different hosts. What an amazing time we had! All our hosts were fantastic in every respect. It was also a great learning experience for us as guests. I was able to get some great ideas for improving some aspects of our guests visits. We love living in our piece of paradise. Tim's green fingers have meant that we enjoy a tropical garden that provides us with plenty of shade (and beauty). The spectacular native wild life on our property provide us and our guests with much pleasure. We caught the travel bug when we were young and have seen most of Australia. We have traveled extensively overseas as well as spending 6 to 12 month sabbaticals in Europe and the USA. We spend several months on international trips each year, partly because our kids live overseas. Currently we have stayed in Airbnb accomodations in Mexico, USA, France, England & new Zealand. We get many visits from family and friends including both Aussies and from overseas and really enjoy sharing our piece of Atherton Tableland paradise with others. We are very relaxed hosts and have really enjoyed our many and varied airbnb guests. My interests are many: travel, interior decorating, gourmet cooking, ceramics, warm glass and entertaining friends and family along with reading and watching good movies.
