Description

The space

For those who love nature & outdoor activities - experience Yellowknife's rural wilderness beauty. Explore the Ingraham Trail. Boating/Fishing, Swimming, Hiking, Picnicing, Northern Lights viewing are all readlly accessible from our location at Prelude Lake.

The property was a Bed & Breakfast, the cabins have since been renovated and are now self contained units with all the amenities of home with only two exceptions, limited power and limited water as the cabins are located off the grid.

The Pine Lodge has two floors, the main floor has the kitchenette, Bathroom and a futon. The second floor (loft) is where the bedroom is located which is furnished with a queen bed and a dresser. (Access via a ladder)

Getting around

Country Cabin is located 29 kilometers east of Yellowknife on the senic Ingraham Trail (Highway 4) located at 40 Prelude Lake Main, in the Prelude Lake Territorial Park.

Other things to note

The cabin is fitted with hot & cold running water, but if you are someone who loves long hot showers then maybe off grid cabin live is not for you. As the cabin is off the grid, water for the cabin is trucked in from the nearby lake. The cabin water tank holds 245 gallons (1100 litres) and will be refilled every second day (48 hrs). If additional fill ups are required a $25.00 charge will be incurred per fill up and unscheduled fill ups may not be readily available. Please use water wisely, every drop counts.

As with the water power is also limited, the cabin is equipped with 120 volt AC power (24/7) throughout which will accommodate most low wattage equipment i.e. phone chargers, laptops, camera battery charges etc. Our power mainly comes from solar arrays (96%) and is stored in batteries for those cloudy days and long dark winter nights.

We enjoyed our quiet stay at David's cabin. Living off the grid really made us appreciate everything we have - between conserving power, to being aware of heat escaping when you leave the door and window open to the amount of water you use. The cabin is an easy 30 minute drive from Yellowknife and is a perfect getaway from the city. It is perfect to try to catch some northern lights too. There are tons of lakes in the area so if you like water this is a great place to stay! David is informative and super friendly. We would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a get away from everything.

David's country cabin was very cozy and humbling to make you realize how much we take our resources for granted. Totally off grid, you feel good minimizing your impact but have all energy needed to stay comfortably.

We stayed at the Country Cabins' Pine Lodge in mid-April hoping to catch some late-season Auroras. We were astonished to find out we could see beautiful auroras right outside of this cozy property. Even if the cabin is off the grid, it offers all the comforts of home. If you are OK with cooking your own meals (it is a 30-minute drive to town, and most rental cars will have a mileage limit) and conserving water and electricity, you will find this property the perfect aurora getaway. The cabin offers all the comforts of home: propane heating, running water, electricity for small devices, and a well-equipped kitchen (but no microwave, because it is a high-wattage appliance). Despite being far from town, we never felt like anything was missing. You can't ask for much better!

Good: great location, nice comfy room, great view for aurora! Will recommend for sure! Not good enough: the bed room is on the upstair. The stair is a bit dangerous to climb.( ok for young ppl but won't recommend for older or kids.) Too hot and dry to sleep at upstair when turn the heat on. Still a great place to stay for Yellowknife trip. Me and my friend love it. Will book again if we go back to Yellowknife for sure.

We had the most amazing weekend away at Dave's country cabin. It's exactly as described, completely off the grid, but with all the modern creature comforts. We set out to head north and see the Northern lights and they truly delivered! The neighbourhood is an amazing group of neighbours at Prelude Lake Camp grounds, and we even got to meet the neighbours around their fire pit, and learnt about life in the far north. Close walk down to Prelude Lake (currently frozen over), but would be amazing to visit again in Summer. All in all a fantastic weekend away, and cannot recommend this place highly enough - a Must visit! :)

This.. Lovely place is maybe, maybe.. The small cute lodge what you thinking. David posted pics are very limited to explaining about the place. He should better take pics again :D Anyway, First time, I worried about temp. of inside.(-11'c at night Apr. 12 2016)But it was little bit hot enough. Everything was clean inside. It feels 'I'm the first guest.' David also very friendly The water. You don't warry too much. 1000L for 2days is enough for 2 people. If you don't take shower 3 times a day. In my case, David said half of tank was left during 2days. Power also didn't bother me. Just turn off the light if you don't use it. Here is little far from Yellowknife town. So you have to rent a car. But there is no city light. You can see northern light in front of your place. Also you can see it in the bed through the window. Oh, the water pressure of shower was little bit low.. but it was fine. Highly recommended.

My wife and I have lived in the north for over forty five years and 16 of those have been at the lake. My wife is a nurse and I'm a retired firefighter from the city of Yellowknife. When we purchased the property it was a Bed & Breakfast, the cabins have since been renovated and are now self contained units with all the amenities of home with only two exceptions, limited power and limited water as the cabins are located off the grid.
