Other things to note

Things to Do...
If you need a break from lying in your pool, watching the birds and butterflies or enjoying the beaches, there are plenty of other things to see and do in and around Puerto Viejo … Here are just a few of them!

Jaguar Rescue Centre:
Visit the injured or orphaned ‘stars of the rainforest’ and learn about their rehabilitation. Tours at 9.30 & 11.30 daily except Sunday. Private tours available on request.

Botanical Garden:
Take a guided walk around this stunning rainforest garden, taste local fruits straight from the trees and photograph tiny Red Poison Dart frogs.

Fishing / Snorkelling/ Dolphin Watching:
Check out Wahoo fishing and tours: a great half or full day out on the water.

Turtle watching:
In season be part of a small group guided by local experts to witness the moving spectacle of turtles returning to their birthplace to lay their eggs. Contact Junior (in your house phone for detailed information).

Horseback riding:
With options for adults and children at all experience levels, take an adventure and spot wildlife from the saddle. Contact Caribe Horse Riding Club (Emily) in your phone for more information.

Canopy Zip-line Tours:
Take a swing through the canopy and see nature up close with the thrill of a fairground ride! Contact Terraventuras for more info.

Chocolate Tour:
Learn the history of cacao and taste organic chocolate - a must for chocoholics! There are 2 great tours given by Chocorart and Caribeans: See their flyers for more info.

Surfing Lessons:
Learn how to surf or improve your technique at Cocles beach, home of the famous Beach Break. Go to Om Yoga, near Cocles beach and ask for Alex: he guarantees that you'll stand on your board in 1 hour!

Scuba diving / Snorkelling:
Take a snorkelling trip to the outer reefs and become part of the underwater world or learn how to dive in warm, clear waters and get your PADI certification. Reef Runners in Puerto Viejo will tell you all about it!

Spa Time:
Indulge yourself and choose from a menu of treats all featuring local fruits and oils. Pure Spa and Indulgence Spa use local fruits and chocolate and the smells are divine!

Green Iguanas:
Visit and learn about these magnificent prehistoric reptiles at The Green Iguana rescue centre in Punta Uva.

Rainforest Waterfall: Take a picnic and the road to Bribri and immerse yourself in the cool, clear water of a rainforest waterfall. Just ask us for directions.

Gandoca Lagoon: This is one of our favourites, perhaps because few people know about it...so it's usually just you and the lagoon and any wildlife that happens to be around. Like a miniature Tortuguero, this small lagoon is a relaxing boat trip, spotting monkeys or basilisk lizards and bird life.

Talamancan Mountains and Indigenous tribes: If you're interested in the indigenous culture of this area, take a look at ATEC's trips to visit an indigenous tribe and/or talk to Junior about visiting a local indigenous family.

And this is just a few of the activities on offer in and round Puerto Viejo ... there are many more!

We had such an enjoyable experience staying in this house. It was the perfect place to spend the last week of our Costa Rican family adventure. The open-air house is beautifully designed, well kept, clean, and very comfortable. The landscape is magnificent and the property is perfectly hidden away from the bustle, (10 minute bike ride to Cocles Beach). Being able to take a dip in the salt water pool after a hot/humid day of activity and adventure was key - and so refreshing. From the howler monkey family that visited us each morning, to dozing off in the hammocks while the kids played cards and board games, I can go on and on about how fantastically perfect Zoe & Tom's place is (and how nice it was to be away from our NYC home)!

The house is beautiful, open, surrounded by amazing vegetation, and the pool is just right for chilling. Drive to the property is not too wild, no need for a 4x4. Hosts give great attention to detail; they had fruits waiting for us, umbrellas for each guest, clean water and board games. Definitely recommend this listing for a small group of people.

The place is perfect, very quiet, and near to Playa Chiquita and Punta Uva (for me the best beaches in Puerto Viejo), the view from the living room is amazing, all green, all the house is very clean. I definitely come back to this place! ☺️

What a beautiful house!! Zoe and Tom have a beautiful house in the middle of a perfect tropical forest with a small pool perfect for the afternoon. The house's architecture is an on point adaptation of typical Caribbean Costa Rican Architecture, making it beautiful and really fresh!

Zoe and Tom's place was absolute paradise. You have your very own slice of the rainforest whilst there, with amazing wildlife sounds (and sights if you can spot them!). Puerto viejo had so much life, I recommend grabbing a coconut and sitting on any of the amazing beaches and definitely eat at the caribean sodas. Also scuba diving taster was amazing on the stunning punta uva. Tom and Zoe were amazing hosts; we felt in safe hands but also left to have our privacy. Can't wait to return one day!

Great location and view but the house could be a little bigger and a little less open

How do you begin to write a review about paradise in the jungle? Geckos.....WOW!!!! This place is beyond amazing. The pictures don't do it justice. If sleeping in the tree tops of the Costa Rican jungle with 5 star amenities in a house with few walls and no windows sounds like your perfect idea of a vacation home, look no further than Geckos! Falling asleep to the sound of frogs, waking up to the sound of monkeys, never gets old. Cooling off in your private pool never gets old either. Exploring the grounds, drinking fresh coconut water from the coconuts found on the grounds, eating bananas for breakfast cut fresh that morning from Jose, the grounds keeper....I could go on and on. No doubt there's no better place in Puerto Viejo. We can't wait to get back. Thank you Tom and Zoe

'Geckoes' is owned and managed by husband and wife team, Tom Keller & Zoë Courtier.
With backgrounds in hospitality education and tourism and extensive international experience we decided it was time for a new adventure.
Ably assisted by caretaker team Jose & Neris, Geckoes is the culmination of a two year project to create private and luxurious holiday accommodation whilst maintaining the beauty and minimising the impact on the surrounding rainforest and its inhabitants.
Geckoes was so named to symbolise the symbiotic relationship possible between wildlife and humans.
With a commitment to Sustainable development, eco-friendly practices and environmental consciousness our operating practices and the houses have been designed to fit the landscape rather than vice versa.
Geckoes has been operating since Christmas 2008 and since then we have welcomed many guests to this magical part of the world.
We look forward to welcoming you at 'Geckoes' and helping to make your holiday unforgettable.
