In the distance is Bremer Ridge...the beginning of the Cascade mountains...our place is about a third of the way up the mountain. The pond below the cabins---a mirror to the sky.

The space

For more visuals and information look up Bremer Mountain Retreat.

The kitchen is fairly complete, with a refrigerator, coffee maker, tea kettle, utensils, dishes. You can also cook over a fire pit outside or inside on an antique wood cook stove, electric skillet, or hot plate.
There's a six foot claw foot tub outdoors which can be filled with water and heated by a fire underneath...known thru time as a cannibal tub. There's a wonderful outdoor shower with on-demand hot water.
We supply a box of fire wood per night...which is usually plenty for most people. After that, $5/box...
It's quiet and dark outside at night, with a great valley view. The whole place is quiet, clean, and very comfortable. Even though its open to the meadow, privacy prevails because of the landscaping and hilly terrain.
The sleeping cabin can accommodate up to five single beds or one king size bed and a single. The kitchen cabin has a double futon. The outdoor covered lounge has two additional large bunks. All the beds have comfortable, real mattresses. EVERYBODY SLEEPS REALLY WELL HERE. Tents can be set up in the yard next to the cabins. Additional persons $30 each with beds for about eight people. Tents ($10/nught) can be set up in the yard. We have additional single bed frames with or without mattresses which can be moved around outside... Our largest group has been 14, which is about maximum. Kids under 8 and dogs $20 extra--both can be off leash...
This would be a fun place for a party. Just staying near the cabins with a book or visiting with friends is really relaxing. Or making music... Or a take-off point for hiking the mountain behind us where there are great flat land trails and high land trails.
With such comfy lodging, winter "camping" is really possible...for river runners, fisher folk, dog lovers, walkers...winter is fun...dramatic weather is fun.
This is also a great place for privacy for people/person looking for some relaxation time. It's a good place to let the body rest and eat very basically. No temptations for miles. We can supply food from my organic garden and orchards through out the year.

Guest access

Wifi is not available at the cabins, but is available 100 feet away, on the porch of the main house.
You have access to my garden--bring your own grains, meat, tofu and add our farm veggies. Even in the depths of winter there's something in the garden to eat... Through the winter, salad greens are growing in the greenhouse Come help us keep up with the free ranging chicken's gorgeous eggs...The basics are in the kitchen cabin....rice, oil, condiments, hot cereal, tea, coffee...
Doggies welcome...! No leash law--they can play and run, swim in the pond, and charge around on the trails.
Walk into the woods behind our place where we've made trails for easy walking down by the creek or more challenging trails up the hill to a overlook, great at sunset. Some of the trails are easy and some hard but all are well signed. The upland trails are a great workout and lead to some gorgeous views of the valley and Mt. St. Helen.
We have a great little pond to play on with floaties or kayaks.
There's wonderful river play very near by...fishing, sailing, kayaking, swimming, picnics. This is a great stop off place for long-distance cycling.
The sixth night of reservations by the same person is free, no need to be consecutive nights.
Wifi is available on our front porch.

Interaction with guests

We live right near by and can help when needed. We'll be happy to help direct guests towards fun activities on the farm or nearby. We tend to stick to ourselves and give maximum privacy to guests.

Other things to note

The sixth reservation by the same person--that is the sixth night--is free. The reservation nights do not need to be consecutive.

The other reviews are accurate. We loved staying here. The 1902 Sears Catalog is a hoot! Be sure to look through it. Susan is a great host and her place is quite unique with cool trails and beautiful touches all around. We loved being able to have our dog with us and he other dogs on the property are friendly. They are unaltered however, and exhibit expected behaviors--important to know if you are bringing your pet. Loved our time there--be sure to give the cannibal tub a try!

The experience was wonderful. The cabins are comfortable and had everything we needed, including the full complement of cooking utensils and gear. The views are stunning, Susan and her husband were very nice, and the hiking trails were just fabulous. We also thoroughly enjoyed veggies from the garden.

Came here for a spiritual quest needing a secluded, quiet place with beauty and serenity. This place provided all that and more! Super safe, quiet with endless flowers and mountain views. Has more than the regular cabin provides. Susan and Jim were very generous hosts.

We came back which I think is recommendation in itself. The most warm, friendly welcome awaits you at Susan's home. There is nothing you need there but each other.

Great stay in that place ! Suzan and Jim have been very helpfull. Thanks for free organic strawberries and vegetables ! It's a great rustic place in the nature, not far from Mt Rainier and Mt St Helens. We just have found it was a very expensive stay considering the comfort (145$/night for 2 people) : external shower, external portipotty (we have discovered what was a portipotty !). Our surprise about the price is probably due to the difference between french and US standards. We recommand that place for people who love rustic life in a lovely place.

Response from Susan:
Hello, Jean-Marc....the price should have been $114 per night....does that translate into $145 some how? If it doesn't, then we should have airb&b redo the price... Maybe I need to put some sort of herbal fragrance near the portipotty....or move it further away which is sort of inconvenient...sorry...

This was our last stop on our 2 week family road trip, and it turned out to be a perfect place to end our vacation. The setting is beautiful, with lovely gardens and a shaded porch to sit, read, relax and reflect. We especially enjoyed watching the hummingbirds fly about the gardens, as well as the outdoor shower. We all slept well and woke the next morning refreshed and ready for the long flight home. We highly recommend Susan's place if you're looking for an escape or a family-friendly place to stay.

Our family has lived here on this place for 40 years and really love it! We've been small scale commercial, certified organic produce farmers for about 25 years--now retired and loving having more time to do anything we want---mostly gardening, kayaking, walking. Country living at it's finest. Ike Kinswa State Park is near here and is really beautiful, safe flat-water kayaking with great beaches for picnics. There are places on the Tilton River 5 minutes from here that require no fees or permits.
Presently, we share the place with about 60 chickens so we have lots of eggs...great for quiche, ice cream, anything eggy...

We love making ice cream and watching movies....or sitting around the fire and watching the night sky. We love making things out of wood from the place...maple, cedar, elm, plum....

I've traveled some....The water play around here is just as fabulous as the places I've been to in Costa
Rica (no alligators, or large snakes!), Hawaii, Florida..... And, just about no bugs!!!
