The neighbourhood

We live in the scenic "Old Town" part of Yellowknife on a quiet street. Restaurants in our neighbourhood include Bullocks Bistro, the Wildcat Cafe, the Dancing Moose and the Woodyard Brewing Co. It is also close to both Yellowknife Bay and Back Bay and Pilots Monument (an aurora viewing spot).

Getting around

2 minute walk to the bus stop and parking for 1 vehicle in the yard.

The suite is about a 10 minute drive from the airport. It will cost about 18$ Canadian for the ride and you don't need to book it ahead of time. There will be taxis at the airport but if you do need to call one the number is . There is no bus service from the airport and I'm not able to offer a pick up service. There is a bus that goes very close to the suite which you can use to go downtown and other parts of Yellowknife. It is called the "Old Town/Niven Bus".

Other things to note

Access: There are three steps to get onto the deck and no stairs in the suite.

Noise: We are in a very quiet neighbourhood but we are serviced by water/sewer via truck 4 times/week early in the morning. We are a family of five with a dog living upstairs so you will hear us..

If my friends goes to Yellowknife, I will recommend Michelle's house without hesitation. Michelle's house is in a really good location. It is very close to key attraction places. Also, I saw a fantastic aurora in front of Michelle's house last night. Michelle's family is also very kind. Every time I asked for help, they immediately responded and invited us to a wonderful home party. Thanks to Michelle's house, I was able to create many memorable memories not only the Aurora. I have no doubt that I stayed at the best house while in Yellowknife. Thank you for making happy time.

The suite is clean, cozy, and has plenty of space. It's in a fantastic location: less than a 5 minute walk to NWT Brewing, Bullock's Bistro and Great Slave Lake. All in all a great experience.

If you're visiting Yellowknife, Michelle's place is a great choice. The location is incredibly convenient, as it's close to a lot of popular tourist attractions, a grocery store, and restaurants/cafes (most of which are walking distance). It is also close to some of the tour operators (e.g for snowmobiling, ice fishing, etc) as it is a block away from the lake. Although we had a car, visitors without one would be able to get to the Downtown area quite easily (~15-20 min walk). The apartment itself is cozy and much bigger than the pictures let you believe (they don't do it justice). It is well maintained and has anything and everything that you could possibly need (from toiletries to kitchen utensils). Both Michelle and Pierre were friendly, easy to communicate with, and provided some good recommendations of things to see (e.g Ice caves near Back Bay cemetery). I would definitely stay here again.

If you're visiting Yellowknife and want a place that feels like home, stay here! We were debating between staying in old town or downtown and we are soooo glad we chose old town. It was convenient for us to walk to the barge to get fresh fish, walking distance to the Dettah Ice Road, etc. We wanted a place with a kitchen so we can cook and take advantage of the fresh fishes Yellowknife has to offer. The kitchen was fully stocked and we cooked at least 5 meals! It was a spacious for the three of us and we all slept soundly. The central heating system was great as well as being able to wash our clothes with the washer & dryer. Michelle and Pierre were super great hosts and very informative when we had questions.

My partner Pierre and I have been hosting guests for two years in our suite. We love the outdoors and spend a lot of time out boating and camping. We have a baby boy, two older girls and a young husky in our busy family. I only speak English but Pierre also speaks French.
