Rivergate Estate has four separate houses on a grand equestrian estate abutting Griffith Park in Los Angeles. Salt water pool, hot tub, fruit orchard, maze, fire pit... The gatehouse and stables are original to the estate once owned by Bette Davis
Rivergate House https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/6132998 is the main house (master and twin bedrooms, 3 bathrooms). The hall is an open plan kitchen and wood burning adobe fireplace; the very heart of the the estate with a giant tiled Moroccan table on the patio overlooking the lawn and pool and stables.
Dillard's Pool House (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1233330) is just like summer. Just off from the saltwater pool and hot tub, with a huge bathroom and living room looking out to the lawn and the hills of Griffith Park.
Channing House https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1316362 is at the front of the estate by the fruit orchard. Arched windows look onto the master king bed and the twin room looks out to the San Gabriel Mountains. All the houses are stylishly decorated with memories of England and Morocco.
And O'Leary's Cabin at the far end of the grounds, named after Humphrey Bogart's character Micheal O'Leary, the stableman in Bette Davis' 1939 film Dark Victory; the Cabin is original to her estate Riverbottom. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/992786
The unique and historical nature of Rivergate estate make it a lovely oasis to stay in. Rivergate has a number of houses available through Airbnb that enjoy massive organic gardens, almost half acre lawn with an abundance of butterflies and birds, saltwater pool and spa, fire pit, horses and chickens, art studio, fountain area, fruit trees… and Wi-Fi throughout.
We are located just minutes from Hollywood, Los Feliz and the major studios: Warner Bros, NBC, CBS, Disney, Nickelodeon. And all the amenities of Griffith Park on your doorstep.
Griffith Park, and all of its amenities is just outside the gates.
Please don't let the rural setting and the hooting of the owls fool you, we are still in the heart of the city and you should be aware that you can sometimes hear the freeway, helicopters, dogs and sirens typical of city living. I mention it because it seems out of place while you lounge in the sun on the lawn feeling like you are out in the country.
Interaction with guests
I live in the main house and will be staying nearby. I take my role as host very seriously, I won the Hero Host award last year. Please read my reviews to get a feel for this special property and how we manage it.
Other things to note
Boring Legal Things: A 10% Transient Occupancy Tax, imposed by the city of Glendale, has been added to the final cost of the rental room (which we pay to the city). This is supposed to be stated separately as an additional cost to your room rental, however AirBnB does not allow for this option in pricing.
We charge a high cleaning fee. This is for the standard cleaning that we do before each guest and the small repairs, repainting, replacing wear and tare to furniture, rugs, upholstery and minor repairs.
The grounds and shared space is monitored 24/7 with security cameras.
Like in the country, if you see a gate open, leave it open, if it is closed, close it after you.
No smoking inside please. If you smoke, please do so outside and use an ashtray. Please empty the ashtray in the outside bins and not in the house
No more than two guests at a time on the property. If you have a group, please ask Amy
Please Use the pool fence gates. They can be a little tricky to operate as they are designed to keep toddlers out. Pull the toggle on the top of the gate up to open. If in frustration you take the fence down, please make sure you put it together again for the sake of the kids on the property. MAKE SURE THE GATE IS COSED AFTER USE and that the pool is secured once you have finished. Again, we have young children on the property and really like them and want to ensure their safety☺
The grounds of the estate are shared by the community of holiday homes on the estate. We find that the guests either never see each other, or become fast friends. Please be kind and courteous with anyone you meet on the estate
Trash is in the bins down the back alley to the west of the houses (by the huge hanging bird cage. Trash day is Tuesday morning.
Redish for rubbish
Gray for recyclables
Green for grown things.
Please take care of the floors, walls and furniture; some of it is expensive and imported.
The estate is great for dogs and we do allow them (with a $100 cleaning fee). Please keep them on a leash in the pool garden (no pooping in this area please). You are welcome to let them off leach to run around in the front garden. There is a great sandy area out the back gate known as Easter Field and Bette Davis Picnic Area. We would like for them to poop there, if you dog dose poop in on the estate, please remove it and place it in the out-side bins. Please do not leave your dog unattended.
Hope this is not to frightening or strict. If you have any questions, issues, problems or recommendations, please let us know.
I am a mom and artist. Originally from London, England; I have been in California for 12 years and live on the property with my two very young children. I love my role as host and go to great effort to ensure a lovely experience for my guests.
