Welcome to Storrøsta! This is a refurbished farmhouse, originally built in '37. It's located off the beaten track in the middle of nature. Storrøsta is a quiet retreat, overlooking the mountains and valley. Enjoy the silence and view at sunset - either on the patio or in the open air hot tub - if you're lucky you'll have a moose visiting!

The place is also great for kids. There's a trampoline and a slack line available in the summer, as well as outdoor games and bikes free for you to borrow.

The space
This old farmhouse is located at a beautiful and undisturbed spot about halfway between Oslo and Trondheim. It appeals to those who want a retreat with beautiful scenery, magnificent hiking trails and fresh mountain lakes to swim in. Or for those who just want to have a rest in the hammock, reading a book, or maybe catching a glimpse of that local wildlife... Or why not sit out all night in the hot tub, watching the milky way overhead?

Where you’ll be

Alvdal, Hedmark, Norway

Hiking tracks are right outside the door! Alvdal Vestfjell has rivers, streams, ponds and lakes - why not have a swim or go fishing! (Just remember to get get your "Fishing card" at the local sports shop)

Or grab a bike from the barn, they're free for you to use - and bicycle on gravel mountain roads - or go off road on narrow tracks, but watch out for that moose! (Seriously!)

Visit small mountain farms up in the valley above, they sometimes have calves, chickens and goats breathing fresh mountain air. Some days you can have a taste of that locally made goat's cheese. And fresh waffles!

Birds are singing all morning and all day outside your windows at Storrøsta. Grab a book and have a strech in the hammock. Let the sun set. Sit outside on the patio and have a look out across the field... occasionally you'll see moose, deer, fox and capercaillie just outside the fence. The rabbits will even sometimes come all the way up into the yard, chances are best at dawn.

In this part of Norway we even have wolves, lynx and wolverine. If you're really really lucky - or have a lot of patience and stamina - (most likely both) you'll eventually see those too...

If you have children, why not pay a visit to the Aukrust Center in the summer, 10 minutes away by car: http://www.aukrust.no/

The World Heritage town of Røros is 80 kms away. It's got silver mines open for you to enter, enormous slag heaps for you to climb, and even one of Europe's most northern deserts for you to get thirsty in, before you head back to the patio for a sundowner.

If your're really into mining, you could also have a look at the mines in Folldal - about 30 minutes away, but enough mines already?

Go hiking in the Rondane National Park - about 1 hour drive away, or in one of Northern Europe's longest canyons, Jutulhogget, one half hour drive away.

My wife and I are eagerly concerned about environmental issues - both globally and locally - and we love nature. Those are the reasons why we got this cottage. We love the fresh air, fresh water and wildlife - and we got it all at the cabin Storrøsta. We spend almost all our holidays up there - winter and summer. Not flying on holidays for years, and driving an electric vehicle from home to Storrøsta, is how we've drastically lowered our co2 footprint. At Storrøsta we have the possibility to spend our holidays in a environmentally friendly manner. We also believe that sharing this beautiful place and letting others take part in the nature experiences available there, are one of the best ways to encourage others to pick up some if those vibes.
