Our cool and comfy apartment offers everything you need; cold A.C., plush queen-sized bed, WiFi, classic claw foot tub with shower, breakfast nook, and super, super clean! Located 3 blocks from the Esplanade bike lane that goes from City Park to the French Quarter. We have bicycles available upon request. The location is an up and coming neighborhood, with a newly renovated school across the street, and only a 5-minute Uber ride or 10 minute bike ride to the French Quarter.

The space

Our home is a historic, Victorian-Era house that has been converted into four units. Two units are permanent local tenants, and are very hospitable. Lloyd lives next door and is a absolute character. This is a lower unit, one bedroom apartment that we fixed up for the Airbnb crowd. It is has old New Orleans style charm, built nearly 100 years ago, and faces the newly renovated elementary school. The unit is a lower unit, below another converted Airbnb apartment. It is about a 5 minute drive to the French Quarter, a 10 minute bike ride- about 4 blocks to Esplanade street bike lane that goes to either to the French Quarter or to City Park. We have bikes available upon request.

Guest access

You have access to the complete unit, a 1 bedroom with a queen-sized bed, a full kitchen and bathroom. The property has a keyless door entry. We will send you the code the night before or morning of your arrival. If we are unable to greet you at the property, please use the keyless entry to let yourself in and make yourself at home. You will find the guidebook on the coffee table; it has all the info you need to stay in our place. There is a small courtyard in the back of the property to lounge and enjoy the outside. Next to the courtyard is a shed where we keep bicycles for your use.

Interaction with guests

I am usually available. We try to greet people upon arrival whenever feasible, and then your privacy is your own and our interaction thereafter is dependent on your needs. Please feel free to call us directly if the need for assistance arises, or contact us through the Airbnb website. If we are out of town, we will provide you with a back up contact.

Other things to note

Just remember that you share a common dividing wall with the unit next door. Please be courteous to the other adjacent residents as sound travels easily. I recommend you remove shoes in the evenings to minimize the echo from the wood floors. The neighbors in the building are very friendly, and fairly quiet, so feel free to say hi.

The TV has local HD channels through the digital antenna, as well as we have AppleTV to access online entertainment. To use the HD antenna, be sure to select TV as the source, and then you can flip through the local channels. For AppleTV, be sure to select HDMI 1, then you should see the main AppleTV menu with all the online programs to choose from, i.e. YouTube, Netflix, HBO, etc. If you have a cable subscription, you can access those programs through your provider, if not you can at least still see all their free programming. I have had very few inquiries about the TV as most people come to NOLA for the attractions, food, music, and amazing entertainment!

This was our first time using Airbnb, and it was unfortunately not a positive experience. The listing was labeled as safe, clean, and cool. While the residence was clean, it was neither safe, nor cool. We arrived at the location at approximately 9 pm. As we drove to the home we began to get concerned because we noticed that there were several homes in the area that had fallen into disrepair and there were individuals loitering in the vicinity. When we arrived the exterior lights on the residence were off, which we assumed was because the switch simply had not been flipped; unfortunately, this was not the case as we learned that there was no light switch for the exterior lights and both lights were in fact burnt out, raising our level of concern about safety and making it difficult for us to unload our car and get into the property. As we unloaded the car, my husband was approached by a panhandler asking for money--again, raising safety concerns. Once we got unloaded, we were relieved to find that the property was, in fact, clean and largely as presented in the photographs on the interior. The exception to this was the air conditioning, which was not central air conditioning, but rather a window unit. While I have lived in homes with window units before and they are perfectly adequate when utilized properly, unfortunately that was not the case here. There was a single window unit for the entire property, which was far too undersized to cool the property sufficiently. As a result, the temperature in the bedroom got to 84 degrees during the night, making it impossible to sleep. Add to this the fact that police were dispatched to the immediate area (visible from the window of the property) at least three times in the first two hours of our stay, and that the wifi dropped out about every 30 minutes and the only way to fix the issue was to go knock on a neighbor's door and ask them to reset the modem, and you get an overwhelmingly negative experience. We left first thing the next morning and found different accommodations. While the host was polite when we communicated with her, unfortunately she just oversold the features of the property.

Lucretia was good at communicating before we arrived and after we checked in. Bed was comfortable, and fortunately there was an iron and ironing board provided which we ended up using a couple of times. I don't think I would feel comfortable walking or biking to the Quarter, but a Lyft ride was $8 or $9 so not bad at all. We had a great stay!
