Quaint and charming top floor apartment in an historic clapboard house in the Hudson/Park neighborhood, next to Center Square. Private entrance, deck for morning coffee, steps from Plaza and the NYS Museum. Off-street parking included!

The space

The apartment is a fully-equipped second floor apartment in a two-unit building. You have your own spacious bedroom, fully-equipped kitchen, bathroom with claw foot tub, deck with private entrance, as well as off-street parking. There is one queen bed, but enough space for at least two more people with an air mattress (provided by guest).

Guest access

Private entrance at back of house. There is a deck attached, with spiral stairway into the backyard which leads out to off-street parking.
One room in the apartment is off-limits (it is a private office; doors are closed). Space total is about 550 square feet.

Interaction with guests

When guests are here, I live with my partner in the first floor of the house, in the ground floor apartment. I am happy to provide advice, directions, etc. But I also allow folks plenty of privacy for your getaway or visit. During non-guest periods we do occupy the upstairs, so our books and clothes are stored there. But the apartment is prepared for your arrival, with fresh linens, soaps, basic cooking ingredients, and everything you need for morning coffee or tea!

Other things to note

Albany is a fabulous spot to base yourself for trips to the Berkshires, the Catskills, Saratoga and Cooperstown (only 75 miles away!) The artsy city of Hudson is just under an hour south of Albany. Venture further, and you can be in Boston in three hours, Montreal in 4 to 5, and the Adirondacks even faster.

But there is plenty to do right here, and the apartment offers peace and respite if you just need a different space within which to unwind. It would work well as a writing retreat.

Located within walking distance to the Empire State Building and all nearby attractions, I have nothing but positive things to say about my stay. Clear instructions. Friendly cat on the deck. Charming and thoughtful decor. Highly recommended. (I read an earlier review by some guest that was fairly negative about some things, but I found the review to be very thoughtless and not at all reflective of my experience. It's simply a charming place to stay.)

Tara's place is very convenient to Empire Plaza for work. Apartment was clean and had everything I needed for my brief stay in Albany. Off-street parking was a huge plus - could leave my car and walk/take a Lyft wherever I needed to go.

Such a sweet space!! The space has great energy and is a quiet retreat. It's close in walking distance to anything you would need. Tara and Josh were absolutely amazing- helpful, friendly and kind. I would totally recommend!!!

Tara's place was my quiet retreat after long days of attending conferences downtown. It's clean and cozy and has everything you could need. Bed is comfortable. Linens and towels fresh and fluffy. Her decorating is charming and the porch was nice for sitting. I met Tara briefly and she's easy-going and super friendly. I'll be there again if I'm ever in Albany.

Overall, this is a decent place to stay. It is in a great location, clean, and the bed is comfortable. However, it is not a place that focuses on comfort. There is almost no seating for guests. But if you're visiting the area, you won't likely spend much time in this space anyway. The positives: • Location is great. •Bedroom is spacious. • Apartment is very clean. • Lots of natural light. • Bed is comfortable. • Off street parking is nice. • Breakfast items and beer in the refrigerator were a nice touch. •The neighborhood was surprisingly quiet for being right downtown. •Tara kindly accommodated our after hours check-in due to a late flight. The negatives: • No comfortable seating. •Not enough pillows and the ones provided weren’t great. • Spiral staircase is not easy to maneuver. •Bathroom is small. •Clawfoot tub with surround shower curtain is awkward. •No real curtains (only sheers). Some privacy concerns. •Extra towels needed for longer visits. •No microwave. •No television.

Response from Tara:
I really appreciate your thoughtful and detailed review, and take what you enjoyed about the apartment, as well as the suggestions to heart. Many, if not most guests, specifically describe the apartment as comfortable, cozy, and welcoming, as well as offering many amenities. I am sorry the bathroom was not your style, but again, for many guests the shower/clawfoot tub are an attractive feature, offering historical charm and appeal. I always check with guests about the stairs to the deck, offer to bring luggage through the house, etc. But I will definitely add a photo of them, as well as the bathroom. I'm also happy to supply more towels, pillows and window coverings. I usually provide three full size bath towels for guests and it has never been a problem, no issue with providing a few more. As for seating, there are two chairs in the bedroom, as well as chairs in the kitchen. I will look into more lounge type furniture, but again, many guests enjoy the simplicity and openness of the space as it is. Thanks for visiting!
