Cozy and atmospheric place situated in former church , spotless clean. Friendly hostel atmosphere. Great value for money. Very quick responce. We were on our way to Ucluelet when highway 4 closed down because of an accident. It turned out that it wouldn't be open till next morning. We had to figure out where to spend the night. Charlene responded within minutes to our request, which was fantastic, as suddenly there were dosens of people trying to find a place to crush in Port Alberny. We were very lucky! Thank you Charlene!

I very much enjoyed my stay here. The bed and pillow were super comfortable. Everything was spotless! The only issue, but I was already aware of it, is that the walls are very thin. I was alone in the guest house but I could hear people walking upstairs, as well as some noise probably from the freezer or something. It didn't bother me, and I slept like a baby. The light spleepers should be aware of this though.

We didn't expect much and it was just for a night, so it was quite ok. Charlene was very friendly and check-in/out was easy and fast. There was really loud noise coming from above, maybe a big fridge of the bar or something? I would recommend earplugs if you want to get some sleep. Unfortunately the WiFi was rarely working. Floors could use some cleaning.

Response from Charlene:
Oh dear Gerold ! Obviously not the kind of review I like to see ! It is true we are having some trouble with our bar fridge upstairs but obviously worse if it affected your comfort. Very sorry ! I'm not sure what trouble you were having with the WiFi. Perhaps the signal in your particular room is weak as I am confident our WiFi network is working fine. I will check your room personally. Thank you also for your private feedback. You've given me a lot to look into but of course our guest comfort is of our utmost concern. We wish you better times as your travels continue. Charlene.

We had a wonderfull time here. Charlene is a lovely lady who gave us lots of information about what to do here. It's a very good accomodation! And we slept like babies :)! The bar upstairs is also very nice! You can here some noise but it's an old building so that's normal :)

Charlene User Profile

Charlene Patterson retired from the cruise ship industry and moved to Port Alberni in 2010 with the vision of building a lifestyle in a welcoming community with potential. She bought a big 100+ year old church and revived it into what is well on it's way to be Port Alberni's favourite community social hub. She named it Char's Landing, because Charlene previously worked in the airline industry, then the marine industry and now after travelling the world, Char has landed and planted her feet firmly on the ground.

Char's Guesthouse is hosted by Cat, the Bar Manager upstairs at Char's Landing 19+ Public House. She was raised here and raised her family here in Port Alberni and is always ready to visit, answer questions and give tips about nice/adventurous places to check out around town. Char's Landing 19+ Public House is open until 12midnight 365+ days per year with a comfy patio and lounge, live music and community social events. Our guests are encouraged to enjoy the privacy of the Guesthouse (with the muffled sounds of community emanating from upstairs), or to join us upstairs in the Public House for a bevy and some community social time.

HLB's deluxe private houses & apartments are all fully updated, very cozy character homes in quiet excellent neighbourhoods. Each are close to good shopping and all the amenities. Guests check in with Cat at Char's Landing 19+ Public House, and then make their way to their private deluxe accommodations.

Our motto is "make yourself at home" !!!
