Danish designed 2 bedroom Villa set back off Dolphin Bay next to a beautiful National Park. Open plan lounge with fitted kitchen and terrace next to salt water swimming pools. Spectacular mountain views with jacuzzi and BBQ for roof top relaxation. Lots of space and fresh air . Perfect for a post-virus getaway!

The space
The Villa is located in the beautiful Oriental Beach Pearl (OBP) Resort which boasts beautiful saltwater swimming pools running past all the Villas. Although not actually a beach Resort it is less than a kilometre from picturesque Dolphin Bay. There is free car-parking and the key is collected at Reception.
Even when full this spacious resort never seems crowded!

Guest access
The entire 176m2 Villa is available for your comfort and you are welcome to enjoy all of the Resort facilities.

The Club House has a popular restaurant serving Thai and European food, with a pizza stone oven. There is a swim-up pool cocktail bar, a minimart, gym, spa centre, pool table, a tennis court, two petanque courts and an 18 hole mini golf course. The pool features a 60m water slide.

Motorcycles, bicycles and cars are available for rent and the Resort offers various tours in the area (see rental prices below under "Getting Around")

Other things to note
I have to pay the Resort for services but I include electricity and checkin/checkout cleaning costs in my price.

If you need the Villa cleaned during your stay and/or the towels/ sheets changed, the Resort will charge you for that. Just ask for this at the Minimart ... the charges are quite reasonable:
New towels: baht 50 baht each
New towels and sheets: baht 400 (both rooms)
Light cleaning: baht 400 (vacuum, Sinks, Mirrors, beds, tables.. inside and out)

Pool Towels are available at the Minimart for baht 50. Returnable deposit baht 250

My price does not include breakfast but the Resort offers a buffet breakfast at baht 249/ head and various other options which can be served at the Villa

There is no washing machine in the Villa but the Resort does laundry at baht 80/ Kg ironed.

Currently the TV programmes available at the Resort are very limited ... around a dozen channels. If you want home entertainment consider bringing some movies and using the DVD Player which has a good HTMI cable connection with the HD TV .. or stream from your device to the TV.

The rooftop Kitchen/ BBQ light switch is hidden away underneath the worktop, above and right of the fridge.

Please note that this is a big property to clean. OBP expects customers to wash their own dishes etc before checking out. It is their policy to charge baht 200 if this is not done.

Please remember that the Resort charges 3% on payments by Credit Card.

Location

Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thailand

The Villa is in a peaceful location just off Dolphin Bay and right next to Khao Sam Roi National Park. Sea breezes and mountain views makes this a wonderful place to relax.

Oriental Beach Pearl Resort though is not actually on the beach. The nearest part of the beach is only a 750m walk from the back of the Resort, but you will need to move further along Dolphin Bay for good sand and swimming.

Some guests love it so much they never leave the Resort, but it is in a great neighbourhood to explore. This is Thailand at its best, laid back with friendly local people and so far unspoiled by rampant development affecting many of Thailand's coastal areas. I am still exploring myself but here are a few places I have enjoyed and all are featured in my pictures below:

Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park: Phraya Nakhorn cave is a magical place most easily accessed by boat from Laem Sala beach and best visited mid morning when the sun shines directly in. Leaving the Villa at about 9.00am to drive to the boat is perfect. Other highlights are the Khao Dang viewpoint (tough scramble, best early morning), the Canal Daeng Boat trip (pleasant late afternoon) , beautiful Sam Praya Beach which never seems busy and Thung Sam Roi Yod for bird watchers. A National Park entrance fee (baht 200/ person) is required for each of these .. which then covers all of the other attractions for the day.

Restaurants: There are many local eating places which are much more reasonably priced than in popular Hua Hin or other tourist areas in Thailand. Popular choices in Dolphin Bay include the nearest beach restaurant to the resort, Khun Noi's Seafood ( 1 km) which also offers free home delivery, and Nong's BBQ Garden nearby. Meow's seafood is 3km further along the bay just before Dolphin Bay Resort. This is great place for families and probably the best place for swimming in the bay. One of the delights of Meow's Kitchen has been eating at tables set up on the beach under the casuarina trees but in the middle of 2018 the authorities banned this for a while. Currently the ban seems to be off but we will have to see how long this order stands.

Slightly further away to the north (8 kms) at the far end of Khao Kalok beach is 'Welfare' restaurant in a beautiful spot under the headland looking through the fishing boats across the bay to the peaks in the National Park.

30 mins drive to the south are a couple of excellent beach seafood restaurants at Baan Pak Khlong Kliao. Drive right through the National Park turning left to Kuiburi just after the Park HQ, the when you hit the coast there is Ao Thai Seafood (with sign in English) before, and Sai Kiao Seafood (sign only in Thai) immediately after a bridge over the River where there are lots of fishing boats. Ao Thai Seafood is currently my favourite with unusual dishes exquisitely presented, but be careful, it is closed on Tuesdays. Driving through the Park you can't miss Ampaifarm Resort which uses 'chakram', a veg that only grows near the sea. There also many seafood restaurants in Pak Nam Praan where my favourite is Ox Seafood. All of these have fishing boats nearby ensuring really fresh seafood. There are many more to explore .. let me know if you find one you really like!

You can find scrumptious Coffee, Ice-cream, Waffles at Sweet Honey just 6 or 7 mins walk from the OBP on the road to the beach. Another nice place to relax with free Wifi. Sweet Honey all serves pizza and Thai dishes although I have not tried it.

Pranburi National Forest is another half-day treat for nature lovers with a delightful Royally sponsored boarded walkway through well-signed mangrove swamps (free entrance) including an optional, well worth taking, 45 mins boat trip out through the mangroves and into the busy and picturesque fishing port at Pak Nam Praan (baht 500 per boat). Signposting is not good .. it is best approached from the Hua Hin side. The exotic Chinese Temple, San Chao Mae Tap Tin Thong, with great views along the coast is also makes a delightful stop-over.

Dolphin Bay is beautiful, lined with casaurina trees with views of the islands and nearby peaks. The beach is safe for kids and my grandchildren love it! The sea is shallow, sand giving way to mud a little way out. These are not the crystal clear waters and white sands you might find on some of Thailand's islands, but nevertheless very pleasant, the best parts for swimming being in the middle of the bay.

Water Parks: There are several of these around Hua Hin but the newest and best is Vana Nava about 30mins from the Resort. A great place for a day out with the kids, reasonable entrance fees (about baht 2,600 for a family) with lots of eating choices without rip-off prices.

Food shopping: Tesco Lotus in Pranburi is a good sized, well stocked store just 10 to 15 minutes drive away (or by Resort Shuttle ... see getting around below). If you enjoy Thai markets, Pranburi Railway Market is open every afternoon just over the railway on the left hand side before Tesco Lotus. It sells really fresh seafood, fruit and vegetables at great prices.

Hua Hin: The Villa is a 45 min drive from Hua Hin. It is a bustling place these days which I avoid as I have had enough 'bustle' living in Bangkok for 40 years! But many visitors love it. One of my guests said: "Hua Hin in evening was great. Beautiful mix: run down, upmarket, shady streets, loud, busy, tacky, vibrant. Night market awesome".

OBP offers tours all around the area including top spots in the National Park, a boat trip to Monkey Island, Kui Buri Wild Elephant National Park,a Vineyard in Hua Hin and Hua Hin Safari, Dan Singkhon on the Myanmar border and the Waghor aquarium . There is Folder listing these in my Villa. Just book at Reception.

I am British but have lived in Thailand since 1978 and ran an aid organisation taking care of refugees from Burma for 30 years. These days I am writing a book about my experiences. I live in Bangkok but bought my Villa as as a place to escape and write. I love that area of the country. It has not yet become too touristy. The scenery is beautiful, the locals are friendly and there are lots of restaurants with great food at reasonable prices. The perfect combination for relaxation and creativity! My motto for life is that satisfaction comes from what you put in not what you take out.
