My 12year old son and I had the most fantastic time staying with Rigmor and her husband Morten. They are such great hosts and really welcomed us into their home & family, arranging for us to borrow their bikes to see the island and spend time with their family who lived nearby. Thank you so much. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with you and would love to come back.
Brønnøya is a beautiful traffic-free island - well worth the trip from Oslo. We were lucky to have 2 days of sunny warm weather and were able to swim in the local bay and also a couple of other picturesque places further away. It was like being in the Famous Five (Enid Blyton) for a day :-)
Rigmor's house is lovely, like a museum with lots of things to look at. She is quite a character, full of life, smiles and tales. They live on the middle floor of a huge house and your bedroom is big enough with your own bathroom next door. The view is across to the nearby houses. I prearranged for Rigmor to cook our evening meals for an extra cost, as there are no shops / restaurants on Brønnøya. She is a great cook. Delicious. Breakfast is included in the price.
It is an adventure getting to Brønnøya in the summer months, across the chain ferry (very easy to use). Make sure you get clear instructions about where exactly the house & front door is and how to get to the ferry from the bus, as we had to ask people.
We caught the bus from Oslo to the Ikea bus stop and then changed to a local quick bus (sorry I cannot remember the bus numbers!). You can also get the train from Oslo and then one bus.
I totally recommend staying here :-)
