Large and colourfully decorated room with closet. Has one queen size bed and private bath with hot water. It overlooks our beautiful gardens and Lake Petén Itzá.

The space

Gucumatz Lakeside Inn is situated on the shore of beautiful Lake Petén Itzá just five kilometers from the small town of San José and seven hundred meters before reaching the village of San Pedro.
The Inn has beautiful tropical gardens, eight bedrooms for guests all with private bathrooms and terrace looking out onto the gardens and lake. All are decorated in colorful Guatemalan style.
There is a large sitting room with local literature and book exchange containing a superb collection of masks, handmade furniture and handicraft brought from all over the country. Adjoining this room is a games room with a table for eight people and a variety of table games. This room houses a small museum and is also suitable for meetings and/or classes.
We have an open-air bar with hammock, ping-pong and table football.

Guest access

The beach area has ample space for relaxing, reading and swimming. The water is clean, transparent and warm all year round. Kayaks are available free for the use of our guests.

Interaction with guests

We offer a typical Guatemalan breakfast from 7.30 to 9.30 for Q40 and dinner at 19.00 for Q100. We do not provide lunch but can recommend alternative restaurants in San José for those who remain here during the day.
We are available to help you organize your excursions to Tikal (41 kms), Yaxhá (55 kms) and elsewhere as well as make reservations for your onward journey to Guatemala City, Belize, Mexico or Semuc Champey.

Other things to note

Cookery classes are available in a local home for those of you who wish to try making tamales, refried black beans or the famous chicken broth and sharing the meal with the cook´s family (price Q70 plus ingredients).
Horse back riding and hiking are other activities we can organize for you.
Guests will have the perfect opportunity to take Spanish classes and put their existing knowledge into practice during their stay here.

We decided to stay a second night so we could visit the ruins at Tikal. Moya has a beautiful place and the room was very comfortable.

Moya was away when we were booked so we did not get to meet her. The accomadations were lovely however they were very far from all towns and the roads were extremely bad. There was a bus to a few towns such as flores and san jose, but getting back was very difficult as buses did not run often. We did believe that breakfast was included as did another couple that were staying there as well but it was not. There was no internet and I again I remember seeing there was internet and this caused a huge problem with additionial travel plans. The lake was remarkable and lovely to swim in. Very clean and warm.

We did have a couple of issues unfortunately, probably due to the fact that Moya was not actually in Guatemala during our stay. We ended up waiting about 3 hours outside the front door until someone came to open up, and they said they didn't think anyone was booked for the day we arrived. Also there was no wifi. The place is a real gem and we did end up staying an extra day, but I'm sure it would have been a lot better had Moya been there.

Beautiful Inn with a private dock on Lake Peten Itza. Moya was a wonderful host and the Inn is a little slice of heaven on the lake.

Moya is one of the most amazing human beings I have come across. From the very first message we exchanged she was extremely helpful, informative and quick. The place where Moya stays and shares with anyone who is willing to stay is just a unique paradise: quiet, peaceful, comfortable and a whole lake just for you to swim, sail or simply to sit back and enjoy the most incredible sun set-rise. If you want to visit Tikal and have a relaxing time either before or after just make sure to stay with Moya. I will definitely go back and hopefully with an army of volunteers to give you a wee hand with those amazing projects you are running to help out the local community in your area. A huge thank you-Gracias, Manuel

Moya's place is a gem. It might be on the road less traveled, but if you are in the area you should set aside a day or 2 to relax here. The location on the lake can't be beat. If you can, request room #1 - it is on the end with a nice balcony view of the lake with some tree cover. There are lots of little secluded seating areas on the property - perfect for relaxing, reading, or playing board games (of which she has many available). We also took advantage of the kayaks. If you choose to dine in with Moya, you will get a fantastic 3 course dinner for 100Q. Moya and her sons are welcoming, friendly, and there to make sure your stay is 5 stars.

This place was absolutely amazing! Really nice view and the lake is wonderful! Moya was a great host, she arranged a really nice trip to Tikal and helped with a taxi and more. It is a bit far away from a citycenter but for a vew days is is the best!
