Elisabetta is a great host. Il Rifugio di Micia offers simple accommodations; however, it boasts of spectacular views overlooking Lago Albano to Castel Gondolfo. For nature enthusiasts, there are also trials nearby in the Parco Regionale. The only drawbacks were barking dogs, which woke me up a couple times, and relatively slow internet.

Response from Elisabetta:

We really loved our stay. Elisabetta and Augusto were fantastic hosts and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed, including help to sort out a car issue. The view is amazing and Rocca di Papa is set in a regional park so there are many walks around the area. To get in to Rome we drove to the Metro line A station which has all day parking for only 2€. Highly recommended, thankyou.

lovely apartment but a lot of steps down to it which we did know about so pack lite, but the view made it worth while. Elisabetta and her husband were very helpful with notes left on appliances as to how they worked and advise on travel and things to do in Rome and the local area a welcome basket with milk coffee tea and biscuits was a great touch , local restaurant 5 mins walk away does great food and takeaway pizza's that are 2 foot across for only 11 euro's

Thank you, Elisabetta and Augusto, for being such thoughtful and welcoming hosts. We spent five nights in this beautiful, self-contained house, and thoroughly enjoyed our morning coffee on the balcony overlooking the forested hills and stunning Lake Albano. We also enjoyed the marvellous sunsets from the large terrace above the house, where there's also a trampoline for children. The kitchen was stocked with pre-packaged croissants, biscuits and jams for a continental breakfast. Teas, UHT milk, instant coffee - even pasta and beers - were also provided. The bathroom was also stocked and clean, if on the small side. The bed was large and comfortable. For dinner we can recommend Il Polentone restaurant, 5-10 minutes' walk away, which serves excellent local cuisine in massive portions. We'd only like to mention a couple of things. Firstly, while the extra exercise did us good after all the pasta, the 85 steps descending from the road to the house are steep and may be difficult for those less able. Secondly, their dogs kept us awake with their barking on a couple of nights, although this is a common problem in rural areas of Italy. Overall, we were very happy with our stay here. We'll certainly miss the views and the nearby restaurant.

Response from Elisabetta:
I apologize for the dogs, if I had known I would have closed the dogs. In the ad it indicates the presence of dogs and stairs difficult for those with walking difficulties. Thank you for tips are useful for improving. Regards, Elisabetta

The Rifugio di Micia is gorgeous. We loved it and I cried when I left. Elisabetta and Augusto are most welcoming hosts. It is a Refuge - small, tranquil, with an ever changing view of lake, sea and sun set. We slept well, had breakfast on the very private little terrace, explored Rocca di Papa in the morning, read books and sun bathed on the larger terrace on the roof in the afternoon heat, and ate at local restaurants with very local cuisine that were all cheap and delicious. (Lots of the dishes were not in our little pocket phrase book.) Look out for local Castelli Romani wine with no sulphites for 1.50€ in the supermarkets. As it is on the hill facing west, the cooling breeze was always welcome. The 88 steps down from the road to the house, as well as the steep hills in Rocca di Papa, were my daily exercise to make room for the gorgeous food in the evening! I am not particularly fit and I was breathless at the top (Do an image search of Rocca di Papa...) but the view and tranquillity were worth it. The area is not very touristy. We did not have a car and planned to just rest and recuperate, but there is lots to explore in this un-commercialised area of Italy. No one in the town speaks English and there is no tourist information centre so come armed with maps and a plan. I will definitely come back. It is also very convenient for Ciampino Airport and I would also highly recommend it as a place to rest before facing Rome.

You are always welcome, come whenever you want, you are a very special guest. I wish you the best, regards from Rocca di Papa. Elisabetta and husband.

We loved our stay at Elisabetta's. The house is cute, well equipped, and very clean. But where this place really shines is in the outdoor space and the views. The views are absolutely stunning--from every room and from both terraces. Rocca di Papa is substantially cooler than Rome, so it also offers a very welcome respite from the summer heat. Elisabetta was a perfect host--available and caring, as well as being very accommodating. We highly recommend this place.
