The neighbourhood

A historic neighborhood that boasts both pristine brownstones and unkempt storefronts, generations-old Bed-Stuy residents share their streets with newcomers and hip kids. Bed-Stuy's tight-knit community's dedication to their neighborhood continues to support improvements as renovating bars and cafes increasingly join its cadre of locally-owned businesses.

The place is located right next to the subway station, which is very nice. However, the overhead lights in our room did not work - there was a lamp to use instead, there was only use of one outlet with a power strip in the whole room, and the house is very squeaky like any old house would be. The hosts were very helpful with any problems that arose.

The place was decent. The main concerns were the lack of privacy/security, not in regards to the neighborhood, but the room in the house. When we returned after checking in, our room door was open after we double checked to make sure it was locked before we left; that was a very bad first impression. Second, the bedding was a bit stained which isn't what any guest would want to see. I would have been more upset about it had I not brought my own linen (I'm always prepared). And lastly, we were on the lowest floor and the people upstairs, I'm assuming were the owners, were really loud in the middle of the night like moving furniture around on a hardwood floor type of loud at 12 am. Aside from the issues, the place did seem pretty clean, we could tell that they had just tidied up by the smell, and the location was the absolute best part of the stay. The subway stop was literally the next street over. The place is okay to stay at depending on your purpose of the stay. We weren't there much at all, only to sleep and bathe, so it was fine.

Our stay at Roo, Nadine and Neil's place was great. The apartment was in a good location, just 1 min from the subway. Everything was clean and the private bathroom was really convenient. I would recommend it to everyone!

Roo, Nadine And Neil User Profile

Roo: I'm a yoga teacher, writer, nanny, and bartender living in Brooklyn. Prior to that I lived in Seattle for several years, London for a little bit, and I grew up in a ski resort in Idaho. I travel as much as I can and like to move often. I smile a lot. I'm learning French(slowly). My favorite color is green. I love early 20th-century lit, film noir, and 70s rock and roll.

Neil: I am a Jamaican transplant calling NYC my home for over 10 years now. I spent most of that time in Manhattan but recently moved to Brooklyn with my lovely friend Roo. Music is my passion especially reggae. I love to laugh with and learn from new people - laughing especially! :)
