Unique farmhouse, built by two brothers in the late 1800's, just outside Annapolis Royal. With an upstairs view of the river, on a small farm, your suite (bedroom, bath, sitting area) with separate entrance is a great place to base your holiday.

The space

Guest space is private with a separate entrance. The large bedroom with a queen sized bed , bathroom and sitting area are on the second floor with lovely pastoral/river views. There is a second bedroom on the same floor available if booking for three guests (or message me if you'd like both bedrooms made up). I'm also happy to accommodate families with small children so please message me. The suite is part of a farmhouse on a small working farm.
(Note: this suite doesn't have a kitchen. Please message me if you're interested in booking the farmhouse suite that does include a kitchen.)

Guest access

In addition to your private suite, guests are welcome to enjoy our large shared verandah and yard.
We offer a pass for complimentary swimming at our local outdoor pool during the summer months. You can enjoy lane swim, public swim or any of the aqua size classes.
Let us know if you'd like to play a board game, cards, scrabble or chess; we'd be happy to share our stash with you.

Interaction with guests

Enjoy our homemade breakfast on the veranda (or dining room in poor weather) or request a tray to your room. Generally breakfast is around 8-8:30 with some flexibility if our work schedule allows it.
Our home is on a small working farm with dairy cow, pigs, sheep, chickens, turkeys, and gardens. If you like, you are welcome to join Dan and Marissa in the daily chores and meeting the animals; please let us know if that's something you'd like to do. Choring happens early morning and mid evening.

During your stay, as we work and play around the yard, Dan or Marissa are often available to chat or give you tips as you explore the Annapolis Royal area.

KITCHEN PARTIES - Throughout the summer we host several kitchen parties with a variety of local musicians. Should there be one happening during your stay, you are invited to join us.

Other things to note

Our guest suite is completely pet free but our family space is shared with Penny, our friendly 120lb Bernese Mountain Dog, and our cats Tutti, Mini, and Tabitha.
We serve gluten free to maintain our sanitary kitchen due to family allergy, please be assured that your breakfast will be deliciously satisifying and made with real ingredients that are local and seasonal whenever possible.

As tranquil as our farm can occasionally be, you will also hear the joyful sounds of our children swinging in the trees, swimming in the pond, and all the other fun things that go along with being kids in the country. We strive to keep their happy noise to a dull roar in the early morning hours.

This family and their farm is wonderful. Marissa is also an amazing cook. She made us a wonderful breakfast! The farm has a cow, sheep and some chickens. There are also a couple of super friendly cats and a great, big, super sweet dog! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone, especially those that are animal lovers and can appreciate a different way of life.

This home is not properly set up to host guests. When we arrived we parked in a small add on to the driveway which is about 8 feet to small. I had to stand on the retaining wall boulders to get my suitcases out of the car. We were informed by the host that breakfast was served outside on the porch unless it was snowing out. The kitchen looked very unkept and we did not feel comfortable having breakfast the next morning so we left early. When the bedside lamp didn't work, I asked for a replacement which also didn't work. Further investigation by me revealed that the problem was actually a faulty extension cord beneath our bed which could likely be a fire hazard. Although the host seemed quite nice, they are not properly set up to receive guests.

Response from Marissa:
Hi Bob thanks for your review, I'm sorry that you didn't feel comfortable to address your concerns with me before leaving. It's true that we usually serve breakfast on the verandah; we also enjoy eating there ourselves most mornings but if the weather is unpleasant, we always serve in our (clean) dining room. I had just arrived back from a trip so hadn't finished putting everything away while my husband was canning peaches in the kitchen. All was in order again early this morning before I started breakfast as this is life on our busy little farm. As to the lamp, it worked when I checked before giving it to you and I regularly check the lamps as well as the new extension cord which should not pose a fire hazard. I'd intended the other larger parking space for you as directed in my message, I'm sorry if you mis understood or if my husband didn't direct you there. Your SUV was more suited to the large space. Again, I'm sorry that your stay wasn't what you expected and I wish you all the best.

No shower, steps up to the second floor bedroom. Otherwise, cute bedroom and several very nice, creative and personal touches.

Response from Marissa:
Hi John, thanks for your review. I just want to note for the sake of others reading this review that this list does indeed have a full tub/shower combo. Also I'm sorry that I wasn't aware prior to your arrival that stairs were an issue but the listing does say that the bedrooms are on the second floor for both this one and the suite that you stayed in. Best wishes!

We loved our stay at this dreamy homestead. Marissa and her family were warm and welcoming. Our kids loved meeting all the animals. The rooms were tidy and beds were very comfortable. The homemade breakfast was super tasty. If we had more time we would have stayed longer! Will return next time we are in the valley.

We love that AirBnB lets us really immerse ourselves in the communities we are visiting to get a feel for life as a local. Marissa & Dan's sweet family and home is one of those special places that only AirBnB guests get to experience. Exactly as advertised, expect the real deal "rustic farmhouse" with crowing roosters and delicious breakfasts. Lots to do within a short drive, from whale watching to wineries, but overall a very quiet town.

Melissa and her family were amazing hosts and their home is beautiful! Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer with them! We'll definitely be back if we ever make our way over to Nova Scotia again.
